Buying VS Renting HD Receivers

They will swap it out for a 9242. Otherwise you will no longer be able to subscribe to HD which means they will be losing money.

That's assuming the switch to mpeg4 ever happens.

I agree with the earlier posts about renting. I currently rent my 9200 and ended up getting a replacement sent to me after 18 months due to what Bell deemed as "hardware issues".

If I had purchased the receiver in the beginning, it would have cost me $600 which would have provided me with a 1 year warranty. Considering my PVR died after 18 months, I would have been out of my warranty period.

I've heard that Bell will sell a replacement 9200 to customers at a cost of $199. This means that I would have paid $800 for a 9200 PVR within 18 months (original + replacement). Renting definitely paid off for me.

Although, this was the only receiver I've ever had to replace, the $600 was just too much for me to pay upfront.

I did not say that.

there are 2 different things:
-nimiq 2 upgrade to have access to some channels, hd signal and international programming-which is free
-hd installation-which is also free if it is your first hd box

if the cx has already the second lnb(nimiq 2), but he does not have yet a hd receiver, he still can get free installation for his hd.

in other cases cx don't have the second lnbf, but they want to install a hd receiver, so they need a nimiq 2 upgrade+installation of the receiver.

ps: do I express myself more clear?

ok, I have to correct myself.

it is true, if customer had already a nimiq 2 upgrade and he wants to rent an hd receiver, the installation will cost him 75.00, but he still can get 6 months free hd channels.

exAgent, if the customer is eligible for nimiq 2 upgrade and he purchases his receiver hd he does not have free hd channels, but he has free installation.

As you are Renting it stands to reason they will just replce your 9200 with a 9242 and you will carry on Renting, at the same price.

It is the Customers who invested and bought the 9200's & 6100's that are concerned about MPEG4 & 8PSK. I think it is a safe betthat a reasonable ofer will be made to those customers to upgrade. I am pretty sure some will opt to keep the 9200's to use as an SD Dual Tuner PVR, just like the 5200.

this is the promo hd for the new hd customers. like I said if you upgrade for hd receivers you can get:

1-if rental: free installation+free hd packages for 6 months(all the 5 hd themes)
2-if purchase: free installation only

Never stated otherwise...

I know too well, I had to fight with an agent last October...
When I activated my HD receiver I was told by the agent I will get my HD channels FREE for 6 MONTHS. I repeated the statement back to the agent 3 times, telling the agent that I BOUGHT the receiver, that I was not renting. He kept on saying yes. Took his name an ex and guess what? First bill came and I was being billed for the HD. After arguing for over 45 minutes when I called back the agent finally agreed to request a credit for the 6 months, which I got the following bill

You don't have to rent to get protection beyond 1 year. I got the extended warranty through Future Shop when I bought a PVR and it died at 3

We were talking about Bell replacing a 9200 when they change to MPEG4 for HD, not just a general replacement for being defective etc.

Yes the extended warranty can be effective but I would point you towards Bell's Dish Care, which is $6 per month and covers ALL your purchased receivers and switch's.

Are you sure about the switches? I thought the SW44 was not included in dishcare? I may be wrong.

Dish Care Covers remotes, lnb's,ALL switches and all purchased receivers. For sure

I was looking into Dishcare on the website, and it indicated it was not available in Alberta.

Dish care avail in Ont & Quebec @ $6.99 month it does cover the dish (satellite pan) but not the wires :)
http://www.bell.ca/shopping/en_CA_ON.Dish-Care/dish_care.details
Its worth reading the details if you are thinking about it as it does not cover a lot of things eg. water damage, manufacturing defect etc..
