buying my first car. suggestions?

I was thinking nissan sss or honda civic as first car.
I want something that isn't a complete piece of shit.
I want something that moves. obviously its not going to be a rocket but i just want something that goes.
My limit is 10 grand.

and thanks to the laws:
im not allowed to drive anything bigger then a v6.
im not allowed to drive a car that has been supercharged or turbo'd

any suggestions / tips would be greatly appreciated.
