Buying my first Android - Shopper's hell

I'm also getting a new Android for the first time, what do you guys think about the Samsung Captivate? I like the design on the Desire better, but I'd also like to have the most up to date phone if I'm going to use my upgrade.
 
I'm waiting for htcs next big thing. But seeing how the evolution us so amazing, I figure it'll be a while for that. If the nexus was on a different carrier and had a front camera with more internal storage then that would be the best phone ever

You'll be waiting forever though, and I don't mean that in a negative way. What I mean is that there's a game-changing phone coming out with Android on it every few months. The next one looks to be on of those HTC phones that has the 2GHz dual processors in it or whatever it was.

What I mean is... there will always be something better just around the corner. So if you wait for the "next big thing", there'll be a another thing rumoured that you may want to wait for, and so on.
 
I see what he means. I have some iTard friends (you know, these people who tell you apple products are the best no matter what) and it's always better if I can have a phone which is, regarding specs, superior to Apple's latest offering.

Also, by taking the "next big thing", you're buying a product which is up-to-date for a longer time.

yeah, i understand what he means too. the n1 has set a precedent for phones this year so far. all it's missing is a front facing camera, some internal memory, and some other small stuff like that when compared to the evo, droidx, iphone 4, etc. i think that with these new 2ghz phones that htc is pushing out, they'll set the precedent again for probably the next year at least.
 
Exactly, if you want to stay ahead you just have to buy a phone when the next generation comes out. The Nexus started the next generation with it's larger higher resolution display and 1ghz processor. The next generation will be started by a dual core phone. The Samsung is just the best of this generation and doesn't really provide a huge advantage that I'm betting we'll see when the next generation rolls out. The Samsung to me more represents the ending of this generation, it's kind of as good as it gets for now. Do you want a good phone now that in a couple months will be dated, or a great phone that is likely to stay a good phone for the rest of the generation? Just like the Nexus was a great phone that started this gen and continues to be a good phone now near the end.

Actually, that's pretty reasonable in the long run. For reference, it costs over 3,200 over a 2 year span to own the iPhone.

Maestro,also in the US is not so Expensive have an iPhone,One of my friends have One he just pay like 80 dollar a month using AT&T data & calls,I think even with more expensive rate that my friend this just go to $1200 Yearly.I don't understand why the $800.00 Extra
 
But how does someone define what a generation is? I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just asking...

I mean you're saying the SGS isn't in the next generation despite being the only Android phone with a Super-AMOLED screen, which is thinner, lighter, brighter, uses 30% less power, has the best touch screen technology on the planet, and is considered by many to be "next-gen", it has a completely different class of GPU which is 3x faster than any other Android phone, and it is the thinnest Android phone.

Yet you say a phone that, according to rumoured specs, doesn't have any of those features, but what it does have is a CPU which is twice as fast as current phones, and that phone will be "next-gen". The SGS will still have a better screen and GPU. So why why would this phone be next gen and not the SGS?
