I am buying a new bicycle and after searching through the internet I ended up with the following 2 choices:

http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/12616/Raleigh_Drift_Mens_Bike_2007
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EVEREST-Dual-Disc-Suspension-Gents-Mens-Mountain-Bike_W0QQitemZ370090730759QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item370090730759&_trkparms=72%3A1301|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12|240%3A1309&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Which one do you think is better? The first one has only a front disc brake and I think the rear brake is used more so it is not very useful. I'll be using the bike probably every day.

Both are cheap department store bikes. For basic transportation, it might be acceptable, but that would be it. They're far too heavy for actual off road use, and even if you had the power in your legs, frame and components wouldn't stand up to it for very long.

At this price point, the full suspension and disc brakes are nothing more than window dressing. "You can put lipstick on a pig, but its still a pig".

FWIW, most of your stopping power comes from the front brake, although it has to be used carefully and skillfully to avoid a face plant.

Winstanleys are great to buy from.
But you obviously dont want to do anything extreme on your bike..
So the people above say disk brakes are a gimmic. This is bull poo.

The ones on the raleigh or whatever are because the bike is about 100 quid. Good brakes alone would cost 60.
No offence but a good bike for 100 pounds is ridiculous. It doesnt exist. But Im sure they'll do you if you're just going to be riding it. ei no drops or jumps.

If that is the case it really doesnt matter which one you get. Its not hard to fix bikes up if somthing goes wrong anyway
