i have seen a bike for sale on ebay and its just managed 13,500 miles with partial service history the price is not too bad but what is putting me off is the partial service history. what should i do?
he does mention it is excellent condition

What could be cheap insurance for you in this case is to pay a trustworthy mechanic to look it over for you: suspension bearings, brakes, frame, compression test the engine, electrics. The cosmetics is something you can see for yourself, but if you're not well versed on the mechs yourself, hire a pro to check it out.

Normally I wouldn't worry about it. But if you can actually go to see the bike, you can meet the owner and have a look at the bike, his house, his garage, his lawn, etc, and make a judgement about how meticulous he is in general.

MOST bike owners don't take their bike to the dealer for service. It really isn't necessary, you can do oil changes and minor tune-ups by yourself.
