Butch and Sundance

True, and Cruise wants to play the part Paul Newman took. :D

As far as John Travolta goes. If he is in it, the film with be a dead loss. In my view Travolta couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. Look all the flops he's had.

Why remake a classic? All of the elements that came together so sublimely first time around will be missing in the remake. Anyone remember the remake of 'Psycho' that used the original shooting script and score, but filmed it in colour with different (and less talented) actors and, crucially (and inevitably), without Alfred Hitchcock? It sank like a stone and deservedly so.

Tome Cruise is a massive star, but he has achieved that on his undoubted ability to market himself. He is not the best actor in the world by a significant margin and not in the same league as Paul Newman. I would rate John Travolta about on a par with Robert Redford, but he is now too old and too heavy to be the Sundance Kid in my opinion.

I think that when the original film was made, a bit of magic was born. The chemistry between the 2 leading actors was so visible it was a privilege to watch. Paul Newman and Robert Redford where 2 great looking men at the height of their careeers. I fear that a remake made by 2 actors whos careers are on the wane will taint the original

In my view Robert Redford was brilliant in the 1969 film. His only really good movie to date. In his favour was his willingness to go 'rugged', rough it up a bit.

His subsequent roles were all pretty boys. He looked a right one! That, again in my view, was his worst career mistake.
