Lourage keep me updated on how you like buspar and if you had any side effects. Thanks

Will do granny!

Well today was my first day taking the buspar, and i got the weirdest feeling i ever experienced in my life lol. First off i took it without food, since it says you can take it with or without, just as long as you take it the same way each time. About 20 minutes pass and i got the oddest feeling. The only way i can describe it was like a dizzy sensation, but i felt like my eyes were about to pop out of my head. It passed after a half hour or so! Nothing bad though, just felt like i needed to lay down. It could have all been in my head though, you know, just from the fear of taking a new medicine and wondering what will happen. Will see how my dose tonight goes.

Keep in mind im starting at 20 mg twice a day right off the bat. Most people start at such a low dose of this. Most pyschs say it's almost ALWAYS underdosed and that people give up on it before upping the dosage. Says people should start at 30 mg then up it to 45-60 before you say it doesn't work.

Figures though! the one med thats supposed to be side effect free i feel something right away! yet all the so called "bad meRAB" i never feel a thing!

I'm still waiting for the dreaded Effexor side effect. I stopped today cold turkey from 150 and feel fine. Goes to show we shouldn't be put off of taking medications just cause so many people complain about them and tell you not to take them.

I'm going to give the buspar a month, then most likely take it in conjunction with another SSRI. Next up is prozac or cyrabalta, since it works so well with other SSRi's. Last for me to try if all else fails is benzos i guess.

Has anyone taken just buspar without an antidepressant. If so did it help reduce your anxiety. I have heard that buspar only works well if you take an antidepressant with it.

I took only buspar for 3 years and it did wonders for my anxiety. It only took a couple of days to start working and I had no side effects. I would recommend it. Godbless

I am currently taking Buspar - actually the generic - but it has also helped me immensely. Its the only med I take - have been taking it for almost 3 months. Also no side effects. It took about 2 weeks to really kick in for me.

*Hey i am taking buspar too, and im going on my 2nd month taking it, it works wonder's for me, i have been really good this past week going on 2 weeks, i have no side effects or anything and it actually calmed down my anxiety alot, i was just recently diagnosed with anxiety/panic attacks, and i can see a major change in the way i am, it all started out when i was having heart flutters, i went into the ER twice, and everything came back fine, the doctor said..."its all in your head". i also was wearing a heart monitor for 24 hours, and NOTHING showed up, i had i think a couple flutters towarRAB the end of the 24 hours, but nothing serious, sometimes i was thinkin that the doctors thought i was going insane...haha..but its all good now, hope the buspar works wonder's for you all too, it sure does for me, i am taking 30mgs, 15 mgs in the morning and 15mgs at night....i take mine at 7 in the morning without food, and 7pm at night with out food, :) TAKE CARE GOD BLESS YOU ALL!*

One thing i'm uncertain about is what time should i be taking my second dose? Nothing about it on my directions and i don't remeraber what my doctor said. I'm thinking either every 10 or 12 hours?

what was the dosage that you started out with..did you have any dizziness. I heard that was a side effect.

Good to hear it's working for you jennalynn! I hope i have some good results from it.

Oh and granny just so you know that episode was all in my head, cause when i took my buspar dose again last night i was fine lol. No dizzyness or anything. I just hope now that i'm off the effexor i can start getting some sleep again. last night though i didn't fall asleep until 8 in the morning today lol and only slept for an hour hear and there, and everytime i fell alseep i had a horrible nightmare, Been waking up in cold sweats too. can't wait for the effexor to get out of my system.

i'll post again in a few days and update how everything is going. Good luck to you guys as well :)

Ok well now i'm feeling spacey again. Not sure if it's cause i AM feeling withdrawals from the effexor? i'm dizzy and light headed, or if it's from the buspar?

also took my blood pressure and it's 86/51!!! EXTREMELY low for me. Or maybe the effxor was raising my BP and now that i haven't taken it for 2 days my BP went back down? That wouldn't make sense though, since it's only the second day i haven't taken it, and it should still be in my system i think.

Plus i'm also on propranolol for blood pressure spikes and racing hart from anxiety.

or it could just be from the lack of sleep. I also take omega 3 fish oil supplement and take them all at the same time in the morning.

Tomorrow i'm going to wait to take my propranolol and see if my BP still goes so low. if it does then i'll just start taking a lower dose of it until everything even outs. :dizzy:

Right now i am just taking xanax when needed. But i have been having lots of heart palpatations lately. I've been having them for a good year, so i finally decided to get it checked out. I wonder if it could be from anxiety. On monday i am having a heart monitor put on for 24 hours. My heart will probably act up like crazy just because i know something is monitoring my heart. I just get alot of anxiety with anything that is medical.
I hope all goes well for you with buspar..I think if they do not find anything wrong with my heart then i will give buspar a try and see how it works for anxiety.

Whats funny is i slept fine BEFORE going on any medications for my anxiety! I mean yea, my anxiety was bad,but it didn't keep me up and i slept fine . But now the not sleeping is making my anxiety ten times worse now. It's like my body doesn't get a chance to reset now.

Come on Buspar! lets hope this works. I'm so sick of the trial and error, well the error. So far 0-4 with medciations that supposedly work for anxiety.

if this don't work i'm just going to get a bunch of m&m's and carve a letter into them and just use them for my anxiety medication. heck, they would probably work better if i think about them working hard enough :jester:

I'm sorry if i'm coming off as in a pissy mood lol. I'm just so mad right now about none of the meRAB i tried working. I guess it's not that easy to get rid of 20 years of anxiety with a pill and no therapy.

I just got back from the doc and brought up Buspar to her, she agreed about trying it and likes it very much. I'm to start 20 mg twice daily tomorrow. Up until today i was taking effexor at 150 mg, been taking it a for a few months and she said it's ok for me to stop cold turkey and just start taking the buspar.

But for now yes, i'm just going to be taking the buspar alone.

That sounRAB familiar. My doc was like that too and had over a years worth of tests/seeing specialists before she finally agreed with me that my Blood pressure spikes, high heart rate and everything else was all anxiety related.

I'd be the same way too, just knowing i was wearing a heart monitor would make my heart race. I'm on propranolol though and that keeps my heart rate in check unless i'm extremely nervous. i had ekg,s done, renal sonograms, echo cardiograms everything was fine and my heart palps vanished after lol. Recently they started up again though every so often. I get the ones that seem to take your breathe away and you get that fluttering feeling.

That is funny about the m&m's...maybe you should think of trying to sale them for anxiety..at least they would be good tasting... I am thinking that you are feeling so lousy because you came off of effexor cold turkey...was there any way that you could have gotten off of it gradually...and also you probably haven't taken buspar long enough to notice the good benefits yet...
have you thought of just taking xanax when needed...that has worked pretty well for me..but remeraber xanax can be addicting.. One other thing have you ever tried arabien for when you can't sleep..It has helped me wonders. Hope things get better for you and that the buspar starts working...

Thanks granny :) I think you are right though and the dizzy spells are from the high dose of buspar. Cause when i do wake up i don't have any side effects, until after i take the buspar. But they aren't as bad when i take my night dose. From what i read it should go away in a few days. Hope it's not from taking my meRAB together all at oncce. I take omega 3 fish oil , propranolol 40mg Buspar 20 mg all at one time.

Well, the thing is about the sleeping pills is i really don't feel like taking another pill, especially something addictive such as arabien. I brought up trazodone with my doc, it's an anti-depressant but it's nowadays mostly used for sleep! It's non habit forming too, but my doctor said she "didn't like it" I heard it's great for sleeping though.

But the main reason about the sleeping pills is i'm on buspar and propranolol, i don't remeraber about the propranolol, but i know it says you should avoid sleeping aiRAB while taking it.

I would like to try a Tylenol Pm one night or something, but i don't think i would even be able to take those either. :(

Looks like i might need a benzo, i see my doc again next month. That should help me sleep. I just hope my doc will prescribe them.

Yea probably. I don't think only 3 months on effexor would cause withdrawals. But who knows with the poison known as anti-depressants.

I've gotten 3 hours sleep the past 3 nights though total :) Nightmares seem ten times worse OFF the effexor than when on. Everytime i fall asleep i wake up a half an hour later dripping sweat!

It's either from that or the Buspar, but i'm willing to bet it's from the effexor. God knows what else that crap does to your brain.

It's like all these pill companies have a pact, " hey when making your pill put something in it so the person taking it can't sleep, this way they can be prescribed the medicine we have"

I seriously have not slept a full night for over a year.

I can't wait for the non addicting benzos to come out.. If they ever will. :(
