Hello~do you mind me asking what your dosing schedule of Buspar is
that has been successful for you? I have the 5mg to be taken twice a
day. I'm one of those who gets really anxious about starting a new med.
I take Ativan daily(1/2 to 1mg) low dose for anxiety and it really helps,
but I need to take something that does more than just "calm" me.
If you dont mind sharing your success with this med that would be great.
Like how long it took to work etc. I really dont want to take a SSRI for
many reasons. Anyone who has taken Buspar and would like to respond
please feel free~THANKS! :)

I don’t take Buspar any longer, as my anxiety level is rather high and Buspar is most effective for mild to moderate anxiety. I had good results with Buspar, but for me, Buspar alone wasn’t quite enough. I opted to switch to Paxil, rather than add something else to Buspar. My anitial starting dose on Buspar was 5 mgs twice a day and I eventually moved up to 30 mgs daily in two equally divided doses. I also suffer from OCD, and found Paxil to work well for both anxiety and OCD. That is the other reason I opted to switch over to Paxil. I think if your anxiety is on the mild to moderate side, you will probably find Buspar to work well for you. Give it at least six weeks to see the full benefits. I think taking Ativan as needed during the start up phase of Buspar is a good idea, as it can lessen some of the side effects like increased anxiety that can come from starting this type of medication. Good luck, and just hang in there.

Hi. I was on Buspar a long time ago. However, I have severe anxiety, and it wasn't strong enough. It was corabined with Effexor. I think it works well if you have mild anxiety.

Thank you extremely wired for the fast reply. You gave me some good information and today I actually started the buspar. I would say my anxiety is moderate but that is probably because the ativan I take really helps me.
It takes me forever to get started on any new med~I guess because we
just dont know what the side effects will be. It feels like an experiment.
Thanks for your input~I really appreciate it!
and also thank you to anxietygirl~it looks like a lot of docs like to corabine
meRAB. I hope I can stick with it. We all know it is easy to give up when a
med that is supposed to help can make us feel worse.
I have hopes for the buspar~I wish they had an official website like other
popular meRAB do~but when I checked it always states under construction~I find that odd?
thanks again for the replies and I wish the best to all who suffer with anxiety.

I suffered for over a year while on Buspar. I was on 60 mgs a day plus 40 mgs of Celexa. Wasn't touching the anxiety. Not until I went to another psychiatrist that cut out my Buspar and upped my Celexa to 80 mgs a day did I start to feel like a new person. I finally have my life back with little if none anxiety now.
