Hi, I'm new here. Hope I'm in the right board. It's about pain but it's not chronic...so I don't know where it should be. Yesterday morning while brushing my teeth I became aware of pain, suddenly spreading from my left shoulder to my right....it also spread up my neck to the lower back of my head. The arm holding the tooth brush ached and I had to stop brushing. As I was going to work, I took a pain killer and left.....it ached till I came home, and the shoulders hurt unbearably every time I extend my neck to look upwards. In the middle of the night the burning feeling came back...I panicked, cos I've never experienced this before. This morning I thought it had subside...and I felt better. After doing some errands, I decided to rest in the afternoon ....waking up, I sat up..and the pain was back...it was worse ! my back and shoulders felt as if on fire....I was so stressed and tried to distract myself from the pain..I went online and found this board[it stopped hurting after half an hour]has anybody experienced this problem ?? Any tips how to handle it? I'm really scared it will come back again....[ It's a big holiday here now, so I have to wait a few days to see my Doc ]:(
Btw, I'm in my 40ies and have controled-hypertention.
Thanks..

Hi and Welcome!

I hope you can get into a doc soon. Your symptoms sound like several things I have experianced but mostly like cervical pain. You might tryt he spine-not backpain-spine board to see if someone has a better idea.

Blessings,
Momz

Hope you feel better. It really can be anything. I have TMJ and 3 herniated discs in the neck. One is pinching a nerve. I get that same pain. The TMJ gives me pain in the neck, jaw, shoulder blades and base of the head (hairline). I would get it checked out. Maybe you just need some anti- inflammatorys or something.

Dear Hessie28,
S'cuse me, is TMJ Temporo-Mandibular Joint ? English is my 2nd language and Medicine my 3rd he he he....so, sorry for asking. Oh, you must've endured a lot ! I don't think it's TMJ cos my jaw is Ok. But maybe it is a piched nerve and it's cervically located. As for the shoulder blades...it often bothers me too, but not like now [+ burning feeling]. Thanks for your infos.I hope I'll only need medication. Good luck on your pain management also.

Just like to let you know.....the burning pain's gone ....2 days now. I'm crossing my fingers. Hope it won't come back. I didn't take any medication though. But the whole of my upper back aches...sometimes the shoulders feel hard like rocks. If the unbearable burning pain comes back, I'll move to the spinal cord board [ went there...looks rather 'challenging' ... ...sigh...].Thanks.
