Burning sensation when sitting in left bum cheek.

I am at wits end.I have been experiencing a burning sensation in my left buttock cheek when I sit down for 3 months now. I have been to numerous doctors and specialists, had many tests and still no answer to what is causing it. When I sit down, after a short period of time I start feeling a burning sensation in my bum cheek, feels warm to touch but feels like it's on fire.Has anybody experienced this?or does anybody have any advice.

I'm no doctor, but this sounds like classic sciatica to me. Your sciatic nerve (which originates in the lower back and runs directly through the butt and down the legs) is inflamed or irritated, thus causing the burning sensation (nerve pain).

I have the same thing but on both sides. I associate it as a nerve condition of some sort. It doesn't feel as though it's muscular or bone related. There are no blisters or skin eruptions of any kind. Could this be some form of subdural herpes or shingles? HELP!

I also have this at the moment on the left buttock but I remember this occuring over 20years ago in relation to a gluteal muscle tear from water skiing. I then linked this to a slip on the lounge when I was trying to clean the windows, probably damaging the old injury. Very uncomfortable but hope it gets better soon. Last time took me 6 weeks. Lots of stretching might help.
Good luck.

Yeh, I had thought of shingles as well without the eruption but more the nerve involvement but it is better now so my the injury of old may have repaired or shingles moved on as I have had shingles in the past before. Have you had it in another area before? Keep lookingfor answers as it is mysteriou. You must be very uncomfortable with this,at least I had one side I could lean on. Cheers

Mine is better today thank goodness. No, I have never had shingles before fortunately. You are lucky you had one good side!:)

Thanks for the encouragement! Must people just agree with me when I say I have (am) a pain in the ass!:D

I have this same problem, except it's my right bum cheek. It's the strangest thing, I'll just be sitting like normal and suddenly my right cheek gets very warm, almost like I sat in something. I have not been participating in any strenuous activities out of the ordinary and it does not hurt. It's just annoying and uncomfortable. I've read through some of the posts on here and they have been very helpful. It's comforting to know someone else is having these same symptoms.

What you have described is a classic description of ischial bursitis...used to be known as weaver's bottom or tailor's bottom as people who sat on hard wooden seats of looms or sewing for hours on end, often got it. You have 2 ischial bursas and they are exactly where your cheek is...that hard bony part and it supplies the fluids for the muscles to move. If it gets inflamed, not only does it hurt but the muscles hurt too as they are lacking lubrication. You can get 1 or both inflamed.

Ask about getting a cortisone shot into the bursa and it will clear up.

Amazing how many docs forget about their anatomy classes and those little things that can be so incredibly painful. Bursitis is one of the most painful things you can get around a joint(it is part of your pelvis/hip joint area). It burns and aches and make you feel like you're butt is on fire. Goes away as soon as you get off of it.

I know...I had both of mine injected not too long ago.

good luck...........Jenny
