I changed the oil on my truck for the first time. And don't think i don't know how cause I have changed the oil on my dad's van and my friend's explorer. When I was changing the oil, I didn't clean very well where the old oil touched. When I was pouring the new oil in I spilled a little. When I went to drive to my friend's house I smelt something burnt. Was the smell from the new oil? My fear is that a gasket fell off of the filter(cause it has happened with my dad's van) and it is leaking oil. No bullcrap answers.
