Burning near Trachea and in ear - Any Help is Apreciated.

I have a burning sensation in my throat near my trachea at the base of my neck and also in my ear. I went to my doc yesterday and he said that it appears to be a virus but he didn't say what he really thought it was. I didn't tell him that the burning was in the lower part of the throat - maybe I should have. I don't have a cough or anything just post nasal drip with a mild fever that is now going away.

He did a strep test and it was negative. He also listened to my breathing. He said my eardrum wasn't moving much, my throat was a little irratated and my lymph nodes were swollen. All of this is on the side that I feel the burning.

Any ideas on what could be going on? Should I be worried? I could bare the pain if I knew it wasn't really rare to be feeling such odd pain in the lower throat.

I often get discomfort everywhere when I have viral congestion that causes post-nasal drip. I get wax build-up in my ears (sometimes feel it one side at a time and sometimes both sides at once) which causes pain, pressure, watery sensation and sometimes burning. I have had my tonsils, upper throat, back of throat and lower throat irritated from it as well.

Usually the bronchial irritation and coughing comes just as the nasal stuff is starting to go away for me but clearing your throat can cause your throat to become irritated as well (I know from experience).

Drink warm tea and keep hydrated as much as possible. This will cut it down. Also, running a humidifier or vaporizer when you sleep at night will help. In the past, I found that I tend to dry out over night and it makes it worse. It is not so bad now when I get sick as I run a humidifer every night.

Best of luck!
