Hi all, I have posted here before. I have been on Omeprazole for awhile, but then I went off since the doc said only 3 months. About 3 days ago I had this burning so badly in my throat, it was pretty severe off and on, sometimes it would just sit there on my throat, other times come and go. All night long. In the morning I finally took a Pepcid AC which seem to keep the burning away, and it returned later, then took another Pepcid. The doc put me on 40 mg fomatadine (pepcid) twice a day, and it seems to be ok. Is this ACID REFLUX?? If so, I have never had burning that bad. I do have allergies, and really dry throat. That day I had lots of spicy sauces, and tortilla chips. I just wondered if any of you get this burning in the throat. I didn't have any stomach pain, or any in the center of my chest, or heart burn. Dr. says its dyspepsia now. Any response is appreciated! Thanks

PS THe burning really scares me. I feel like it is something serious when it burns so badly.

The burning that you're describing is severe heartburn. It is one of the most common symptoms of acid reflux. It's not unusual for people to have a flare up of acid reflux when they stop taking Omeprazole (although Pepcid and Zantac can usually help minimize the flare ups).

I agree, the burning is really scarey. I started with one Protonix per day after I figured out that I didn't have strep throat and it was coming from the acid. When you do go off the medications do it very slowly. It took me over a year last time to get off the medications.
