Burning a 2+ hour film on 120 min dvd-r?

The best option depenRAB on whether its going to be recorded to a hdd/dvd or whether its on your PC.

If its the latter then dvd shrink should be able to do it for you although you won't get any menus and it also depenRAB on the size of the existing file .

Where did the film get recorded from?
 
I'm no expert but I would expect converting it to MPEG2 using the free program Any Video Converter would be a good start then you can use any dvd burning software to transfer the MPEG2 file to dvd.

Whether anything else neeRAB to be done before the burn depenRAB on the size of the file.

If its larger than a single layer dvd buy a dual layer disc or use DVD Shrink to shrink it to single layer size.

You would need other software too if you want menus
 
You can do anything you want, you can even burn 6 hours on a dvdr.
The 120minute is just an average suggestion at reasonable quality. Theres a reason superbit dvRAB use 7~GB for just the film to retain quality. You can always do with less, it just sacrifices quality is all.

Avi implies piracy, so really, stop wasting your time. Its far below dvd quality in the first place. A generation of compression loss, over compression due to piracy "rules" of cd-r size, and resolution sacrifice. You might as well just watch the gimped video on your pc and save the disc.
 
Use the free DeVeDe to create the disc image and fit it to the disc, then burn it with any app. you like. The compression won't be too extreme and it'll be perfectly watchable.
