hi guys, im not normally up at this hour, but i was woken up twice this morning with awful horrible burning feeling in my throat. it sort of felt like it was choking me. i've been dealing with acid refulx and heartburn since i was like 15, i am 22 now. i've had a upper endoscopy(sp) many years ago, and all i can remeraber the doctor saying is that my food was not digesting fast enough.

i've tried prilosec and all the others. zantac never seemed to work for me unless i took like 4 of them. i've been taking tums and omeprazole for awhile now. that seems to help most of the time.

i made the mistake of eating late last night and then going to bed shortly after, which im 100% positive that is why i woke up with the liquid fire taste in my mouth.

my question is, is there anything that can help soothe that feeling? i've tried tums, water, milk, sitting up, standing. it seems that nothing helps until about an hour later once everything has settled.

edited to add, i have the horrible feeling in my back. its very tight and i feel it everytime i breathe in too hard. never had that before.

If your doctor said your food isn't digesting fast enough, I find it odd that he would prescribe you a medication that stops the production of stomach acid, of which job it is to digest food? It seems to me that your issue may be that undigested food is entering into your small intestine and when this happens the bodies response is to create extra amounts of acid to break this down. This extra acid is then blocked and has no where to go but back up.

However, if you have a weak LES (lower esophageal sphincter) this may allow for acid to reflux back into your throat, in which case a PPI should be a proper treatment.

Talked to a GI doctor about having an Esophageal pH Test done to see if you are infact producing enough acid to digest food properly.

Also a Esophageal Manometry can dectect problems with your esophagus and LES.

In the meantime, try some raw honey or organic apple cider vinegar to relief your throat buring or you can try Gaviscon.

Good luck,
~Don
