Bunch of Amateurs - why no press show?

I've just read a very positive review of this film on another forum, written by someone who saw it at a Bafta screening. But when I looked it up in Time Out it simply says "unfortunately there were no press previews for this film".

So does this mean the distributors think it's a bit of a turkey and will do better without a bunch of bad reviews in its opening weekend? Or is there a less cynical explanation?

Replying to myself here, the answer may be that although it's a clever, funny film with some great performances it has the production values of a Monday night ITV drama, and reviewers might not be kind. Saw it in a less than half-full screen (maybe 5:40 is a bit early) and there were people laughing loudly all the way through so they obviously didn't care that it just looks a bit cheap. Scenes shot in close-up in front of bare walls, that kind of thing. But it's a nice, gentle comedy for a winter's evening.
