I realize this is long - and for those of you who don't feel like reading this the skinny of it is that I'm sick of people offering me "jobs" that end up being not jobs.
Anyways, about 2 days ago I was hanging out at starbucks with my girlfriend and this guy approached us (we were sitting outside and he came from inside) and he asked if we knew were a wells fargo bank was. We didnt' know, but my gf's dad works all around the city and she figured he would know where one was - while she was on the phone he and I got to talking and I told him I was into computers. He started talking about his company that does ecommerce and were looking to expand into the area .. we traded business cards and I went home.
So this guy calls me tonight and wants to meet at my house - I was like - let's just meet at that starbucks we met at the first time.. and then I kept asking what I'd be doing and he kept saying "e-commerce" (which, for anyone uninformed, is simply the idea of commerce taking place on the internet versus shopping in real life... (amazon, ebay, etc = ecommerce)) anyways... I kept asking what I would be doing and no matter how many times I asked he replied (in different words each time) that they were expanding up here and did business with ecommerce - which obviously tells me NOTHING about what I'd actually be doing... and as I sat here typing he just called me back (oh - his business card said his name was 'Micheal Cordova' and I called the number that he called me on and it went to voicemail but the voicemail said 'you have reached the voice mail box of 'ian somethingorother') so he calls me back just now and I told him that I didn't think I'd be able to make it to the meeting he arranged and he started saying that 'well we can get together when you're "serious"' .. I replied that I tried both the website (non-existent) and the 1800 number (didn't connect) on his card and neither worked and he immediately started talking about how they were upgrading the system and how he was pissed because he couldn't "do business" for the next three days and then started saying that the website was getting a new name and when I asked what that was he said "there are still a few names under consideration - the company isn't quite sure yet" and I said "alright, I can't find any information on your company, I don't know what you're doing, and I'm not interested" (this is where I should have hung up, but didn't) he said he "didn't think our personalities would work well together." but nonetheless he went on ranting about the company and e-commerce so (just to prove he was bullshit) I asked 'if I were to work for your company, what would my exact job description be" and he questioned my seriousness again and went on about 1000's of companies and 17 strings of worklines that I could be employed under depending on what I was "qualified for" (at which point I was screaming 'pyramid scheme' over and over inside my head). If I had been standing in front of him - I really would have just hit him in the face. At that point I was like - well I can't make the meeting on thursday and he started talking about the "big money" and opportunity I'd be missing out on (this is after questioning my seriousness 20 times lol) and I was like - I'm not the kid you're looking for .. and hung up the phone.
Point is - this is the third time in the past month that I've been offered a job that ended up to be bullshit .. /rant
