I just bought a 2000 Buick LaSabre from a used car dealership about 2-3 weeks ago. Today, for the first time, we took it out of town. On the way to the destination we were heading to, anytime I went to pick up speed, the car would jerk. It wasn't to big, but it wasn't little jerks either. And it was more than one at a time. The 3rd or 4th time the car started jerking, the "service engine soon" light came on. The temperature of the car was still on the "cool" side. The temperature of the coolant and oil was good. The oil pressure was good. Water and coolant was still full and everything. When I called the car dealership to see about the "service engine" light, the guy I spoke to told me that maybe all the jerking of the car just sort of caused it to pop on. Like a malfunction. When I asked about the jerks on the car, he said he didn't know what that was, but said he had heard of other cars doing that as well.
Is this normal for a 2000 Buick LaSabre. Is it some kind of a quirk those brands of cars have? If not, what can be causing the jerking and that light to come on? What should I have checked under the hood if I have to take it in?
