Buffet meal at wedding are plastic cutlery ok to use?

No it is not silly to use real silverware for a buffet. It is a wedding after all. The ones I go to are always buffets and we always have regular plates, silverware, china, linen napkins, etc.

If it is a very, very casual outdoor BBQ type of reception, then plastic is fine.

I don't see why not. I'm going to use plastic for my wedding but it's outdoors and informal so not a big deal for us. good luck

It depends on the formality of the wedding and the style of buffet. I've been to a wedding that was at a fancy restaurant on the ocean with lots of really fancy dishes and servers to carve the meat and hand out the food. Plastic cutlery would not have fit in with the style of that at all. I don't know why everybody always assumes cafeteria lines and "Old Country Buffet" as soon as they hear the word buffet. There are definitely buffets that are much fancier than that.

I doubt anyone will be paying attention to the material their silverware is made out of. Just use the plastic. It makes more sense, even if it was a sit down dinner. Cheaper, less hassle. Get the shiny silver stuff that looks real if its important to you.

No you need regular silverware. Plastic silverware is not sturdy at all and breaks quite easily.

I agree with the previous poster that it gets old when people automatically assume that all buffets are like the high school cafeteria. If they were, they wouldn't be found at high end hotels in very fancy presentations.

However, if you're having picnic type food, which is very informal in itself, then plastic silverware is fine and people expect that. But if it's normal buffet food, then you need regular silverware.
