Two women (COMPLETE STRANGERS) are at a buffet line in a restaurant. The buffet line consists of two rows of dishes, one in front and one behind as follows:
|<----------------WALL----------->|
DISH:---A1-----B1-----C1------D1
ROW 1: |_____|_____|____ |
ROW 2: |_____|_____|_____|
DISH:---A2------B2-----C2------D2
|<---------------QUEUE---------->|
Now, the woman in front (let's call Anna) is standing in front of the second row of dishes (B1 AND B2). She has finished helping herself to dish B1 and is helping herself to dish B2. The woman behind her (let's call her Katrina) reaches for dish B1 and places some on her plate (there is a lot of space between the two women, so it's not as if Katrina is on top of Anna or anything). But almost immediately, Anna turns to Katrina and tells her "Can you wait until I'm done?" Katrina is surprised and says "Well, you finished helping yourself to dish B1 and were helping yourself to dish B2, so I reached for B1!" Anna responds, "No, I am not done with B1. You should wait until I am done as I am ahead of you!"
Katrina repeats that she really believed that Anna was done with dish B1, in response to which Anna's husband suddenly turns around and tells Katrina, "There is a queue, you need to respect it!"
At this point, Katrina, angry that the guy has joined in the conversation, tells Anna, "I'm not here to argue with you. Just go on!" Then she leaves the line, intending to return later after Anna and her husband have left. Anna's husband calls behind Katrina "What do you mean, JUST GO! YOU GO!"
Katrina, now really angry, instead of returning to her table as intended, finds a waiter and explains the situation, and Anna's husband comes up immediately to explain his side of the story. As both Katrina AND Anna's husband are really angry, the waiter calms them both down and directs both back to their seats.
My question to all here is: Is anyone here in the wrong? Was Anna right to have told Katrina to wait, when she had already finished helping herself to dish B1? Was Katrina right to help herself to dish B1 even if Anna seemed to have been done with it? Should Anna's husband have gotten involved in the women's argument?
What do you all think?
To answer Wally's question: There is only one serving utensil (large ladle / spoon) per item. However, Anna had already finished taking dish B1 and, in fact, when she told Katrina to wait, had her fingers on the ladle of Dish B2. Hence, Katrina's response that she assumed that Anna had finished helping herself to dish B1 and could, therefore, help herself (Katrina) from B1!
