Of course, we all are quite familiar with the applicable Bible principles on the matter. But what is your personal application of it? I know some who do fish and hunt, some who do not fish nor hunt. Personally, I do fish and I do enjoy it. I have hunted, but its not really my cup of tea. As far as fishing goes, in Louisiana (my home state) its a prerequisite. Where I come from, as soon as the baby 'dries off' he is handed a bottle of Tabasco** and a fishing pole. (Debbie2243 can vouch for me on this - lol) So needless to say, fishing for me is part of my culture. However the 'potential' issue is: I (or anybody with similar circumstances) don't really NEED to go fishing to eat. And I also consider it as recreation, its relaxing, peaceful and tranquil defined by abrupt burst of adrenaline and excitement. I could just as easily go to Captain D's or the store to BUY the same fish. So although I CAN fish for food I don't really HAVE to. And the fact that I (or anyone else) enjoy it does not necessarily place it into the category of 'mere sport', although it potentially 'could'. I had a VERY good conversation about this with another Brother and friend of mine and he personally does not fish or hunt. He said that he considers it to only be 'sport' since you dont' HAVE to fish or hunt for food, and he would never fish, because it is not necessary for food. I personally thought that was a VERY good and valid point. But, I mentioned that in Noah's day Jehovah gave Noah and his family the permission to hunt and eat animals (with the exception of the blood). But I reasoned that eventually vegetation would have been growing just as before, if not even more so than before. So they likely did not HAVE to hunt the animals for food as the ONLY source of nutrition, they could have simply ate Vega tables and Fruit, but Jehovah ALLOWED them to eat the Animals ALSO. So in a sense I would make a similar comparison to our day, where many of us don't HAVE to fish or hunt for food, but we our ALLOWED to, so long as we show the proper respect for life and do not violate Jehovah's law about blood. In the end we both concluded that as with most things we all have to make our individual choices based on knowledge of applicable Bible principles.
What is your view?? Do you fish and/or hunt??
The Bookstudy made a very good point about the accepted uses of Animals too.
**Tabasco sauce can be substituted for any other competent Lousiana brand Hot Sauce including but not limited to: Trappey's (Bull) and Crystal's Hot sauce, and Lousiana Hot Sauce.
