Broken Tooth

Somewhere in the middle of november, I broke a tooth. Not the crown; no, that'd been replaced during a root canal earlier last year. No, I cracked the root. See, what they neglected to tell me was that when they do a root canal, circulation through the tooth stops so it becomes brittle and inflexible. I somehow put so much torque on it that the root cracked horizontally; leading to an infection, a BIG pocket of puss below the tooth, and lots of pain.

The dentist gave me vicodin, antibiotics, and a syringe with which to wash out the pocket below the tooth (talk about pain, nothing quite like the sensation of hydrogen peroxide foaming up and rapidly expanding in the confined area of a dental socket). I had to wait until the 9th of January for my insurance to roll over and I could get it fixed. I went yesterday; I wasn't worried until the dental assistant started covering my from neck to waist:

That made me nervous. Then they dove into my mouth with power tools, face shields, and a vacuum hose. I felt bits of tooth flying everywhere. 2 hours later they had the tooth and the root out. Viola:

At least I get more vicodin

(and yes, half the reason for this post is to post the disturbing image of my mouth with a giant fucking hole in it)

Ouch Tosty. Sorry to hear about that, my wife has somewhat of the same problem. Except they left little shards of tooth in her gums and her wisdom are now pressing forward on all her other teeth.

MmmMmMM....vicodin...

thanks Sari.

Zoe, i had the same problem with my wisdom teeth a few years back. I had the shards left behind problem once too, it fucking sucks. Hope your wife gets her teeth taken care of soon.

thanks DG :) I get my new tooth sometime later this month. They wouldn't give me a shiny metal one though, they want it to look "natural"

they wouldn't even let me get them to carve norse runes into it. Those pansies.
