broken texts- HTC desire HD?

I've had the phone for a few months and this is the only problem I've had with it. I went to text someone earlier and when I clicked on the threads to open them so I could write the text it just stuck on the loading screen for ages, I tried to text other people as well but I had the same problem. So I turned the phone off and on, and when I went into my messages the screen was blank apart from the "compose message" button, all my texts had just disappeared, so I compose a fresh message to the person I'm trying to send it too, and it just loads for about a second and then nothing happens, and I know the message isn't sending because when I push the back button it says "message saved as draft"

its the second time this has happened, the first time I reset my phone but I really don't want to have to do that again. Does anyone have any suggestions without me having to take it to a shop or reset it again?
