Brokeback Mountain

Markie

Thank you for sharing that very personal experience with us! I feel like i have a new understanding, i think now its not about sexual preference its who you fall in love with and connect with!

Yes I meant the Oscars. :)
Altho I'm surprised Rachel's role is considers a supporting role by the Oscar board and a lead role by the Baftas.

Brokeback Mountain

Overhyped or Not?

After travelling 110 Miles (round-trip) what can I say? Firstly an hour's ride on a Virgin Voyager enabled me to re-read Proulx's Novella before hand, Secondly a short walk along Plymouth's Barbican freshened the mind so I was ready.

The film's scenery is nothing short of majestic and the Screenplay sticks 100% to the Novel but I found the film 'uncomfortable' and wonder whether it will work better in a more intimate domestic environment on DVD rather than on the big-screen of a multiplex with audience reactions interfering with the viewer's individual emotions.

Gyllenhall and Ledger's performance was Good but I seemed to detect a lack of committment at times. The intimate scenes were a little wooden and I felt that there could have been a little too much reserve shown in them. Ledger in particular seemed to be uncomfortable especially in the reunion section.

I won't spoil the story by a blow by blow account but I was less than elated by the story as it unfolded on screen. I'll now have to re-read the text as I failed to grasp on reading the story a critical point in the plot.

Oscar winner - I have my doubts, Eye candy for homosexual males some, Production lacking, however I do recognise that it was not produced by a major studio.

8/10

That is really great news and very well deserved!! I am going to see it for a third time this weekend, which is a first for me!! I've never seen a film more than twice at the cinema before, which is a mark of just how great an effect the film has had on me.

I agree, almost as if there was too much to the point it almost felt fake.

I feel really bad bc i dont think that I got into this as much as everyone else in the theater. I literally LOL'd at Ennis's ending line: " I swear." and I felt terrible because the dudes next to me were almost in tears... Did anyone else find some of these scenes a little too dramatic? i think that is the difference between reading a story like this on paper and then watching it in the theater. It's not too often that you find worRAB in a book "overly dramatic."

I literally LOL'd at Ennis's ending line: " I swear." [KidA KidA] -

.....I'm surprised you got out of the theatre in one piece !

Everyone to their own opinion, but clearly you didn't get this film at all. You missed out on a truly emotional moment. Perhaps when you are a little older [?], and see it again, you may catch the bug.

We saw this last sat.... an amazing movie... not what I expected at all... the gay thing really isn't the key thing in this movie....

The main storyline appears to be more about how these guys lives turned out not that they were gay.

The cinematography is simply amazing.... I saw it at Covent Garden Odeon in London and believe me you haven't seen a cinema worthy of the title a dump until you've visited this cinema!

The whole audience drew in a shocked breath at one point (won't mention why will ruin part of the story), everyone openly laughed at parts, it was hard not to. At the end I saw at least two women leaving crying....

It is so worth seeing.....

Well I finally got around to watching the film and here are my thoughts...

It was a good, watchable movie with some great emotional scenes towarRAB the end.

But I strongly feel that in a lot of places the pace of the movie was slow, especially at the beginning! I think movies need to get your attention from the start and to be honest this film, in my opinion, didn't grab my initial attention.

I mean the whole sheep herding scenes and lack of conversation was really starting to bore me!

The first sex scene provided the much needed action/drama to the movie and it was from this point onwarRAB that the film got interesting (by the way I had to listen to two teenage girls snigger during the intimate scenes throughout the film).

Also got to say that it is not the sex that gets you interested! It is the relationship between Jack and Ennis and their wives that is interesting.

I actually didn't really care for Jack and Ennis to begin with and ended up feeling sympathetic towarRAB the two wives.

But of course, the events that happen towarRAB the end of the film turn things around and that is when I found myself sad and frustrated for the two men.

The story really comes through at the end and yes, it was quite emotional. The fact that their relationship comes to a close and then there is that one final tragic blow, really does make you feel sad.

Overall a good 3/5.

Same here, I was completely caught up in those scenes, and equally so in the flashback when Ennis walked up behind Jack and hugged him - just so much seemed to flow between the two of them, such good performances.

With regarRAB to Jack's death, I always took it from the short story that Ennis did know what had happened, that Jack had been murdered.

Must stop discussing this film, it keeps leaving me feeling achingly sad :(

Markin Eugene. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. The reality of your situation made the content of the movie much stronger for me.

The events of the movie are fairly old news to any open minded straight viewers too, I'd imagine. What made the movie great was the performances, and the tragedy of seeing two people who could only feel truly happy when together, but who were destined never to be. That's a fairly universal message.

It's all down to preceptions at the end of the day - some people may have gone into the film expecting to feel or see something from it that they didn't get, and were disappointed as a result.

Looking forward to the BAFTA's tonight, which will hopefully result in a few treasures for Brokeback Mountain.

Still havent been back to see it yet. I definately will, just need to build myself up first... :o

Just wondering if anyone knows where I could get a copy of the poster from the film. Not the huge cinema ones, just a smaller version. Live in Ireland so any suggestions would be v welcome!

Maybe it's a franchised cinema; if that's the case and they really are refusing to show it, you should let people know they're doing it.

Saw the movie today - very good and also brought the soundtrack :)

And i have to admit, you do tend to think about it once you leave the cinema and, also once you think about it, you get the movie more, you understand and acknowledge it more.

The first scene - that made me cry was when Ennis found the shirts of his and Jack's.

The second was - the ending 'i swear' - bit :(

And not to mention the sceneries - wow, spellbinding and amazing.
