Anyway...on subject, im going to see it next week, so looking at what everyone has said so far its worth seeing right? Because I'm looking forward to it!

Despite the impression given in the short story of it being in Ennis's mind, Ang Lee has admitted in an interview that he wanted to angle the film to show that Jack was murdered, a victim of hate crime, rather that it being only in Ennis's imagination.

However he decided to delete certain scenes he shot that would have given this effect but still left the impression that Lureen [Jack's wife] was lying on the phone to Ennis.

The result we have is this, quite infuriating in a way, ambiguity, resulting in viewers choice.
For me, my first impression was that he was murdered and I stick with that, as I think it brings more emotion to the viewers experience. A little tear?
 
Nothing really to add that hasn't been said but I really enjoyed this film. I thought it was a good pace and didn't find it slow even in parts of very little dialogue. I would say to people to see this film and take from it your own views and not be biased by reading other peoples comments. It took me about 10 minutes after the film before I could speak again, I thought it was very moving.
 
I have to say, it broke my heart more second time round than the first time, somehow knowing what's coming only makes it sadder. :cry:

BTW, I notice no one ever mentions Randy Quaid's little camo role, I think it's very nicely played by him, especially the 'stemming the roses' scene - very nicely done, I thought.. Bit of a contrast to his role in 'Indepence Day' ;)
 
Either you get this film or you dont its as simple as that!!

I got it! omg!! it was heartbreaking! i dont cry at films no exception here!! allthough i havent been able to stop thinking about it since i saw it!!

The contrast between ennis and jack! they loved each other but have to say prefered the way ennis handled it!! he loved jack, not because he was gay because he loved jack, jack on the other hand was gay and you can tell the way he sought other male realtionships out!

Im guessing most of people here have seen the fim!!
 
I adored this film, so beautifully made and the acting from all the leaRAB is excellent. I cried buckets at the end, the last time I cried that much was at ET when I was 5! Even now, days later, the film is still on my mind. I think it is to do with the utter sadness of the situation, the time and culture they are in, and the fact that they (or Enis) didnt feel he could change those factors. Utterly heartbreaking... :cry:
 
Completely agreed - plus, where were all these graphic sex scenes, I only recall the first one, everything else after this was extremely tame.

And why is it an "issue" film just because it deals with gay people. Gay people aren't an "issue" anything more than straight people are.
 
Most places are showing it in England from this Friday (13th) but as normal the Odeon are showing there "family values" and refusing to show it. :mad:

The soundtrack is great but has exactly the same effect. Saw the film nearly two weeks ago now but hearing that light piano score makes me relive the whole thing again. I didn't even remember the score much at the time but hearing it again brings the whole film back.

Go a second time, sit in the cinema right to the end of the closing credits and you'll be a complete emotional wreck on the way home. If anyone was on that crowded Piccadilly line tube that Saturday night I'd like to apologise for the four sobbing wrecks you may have been sitting near on your way home :o
 
watch the film before you say stuff if you idd you will realise it's based in the 60's and I bet your bottom dollar there were lots of gay cowboys in the 60's even if they weren't out in the open about it.

The film is great and the 4 leaRAB all deserve oscar noms,
 
Def heath and jake, and michelle, anne maybe not!! but she was still good!! just had too much princess diaries in my head! and blonde hair looked shocking!

There were soooo many gay men in the 60's!! mostly tv and film stars!! take two guys from bewitched!! the tv show! both gay! list is endless!! rock huRABon!
 
I loved this film but quite a few things annoyed me.

1)the gay sex scenes were not realistic enough. I do not kiss a guy like that! There was no passion in it.

2)They both enjoyed their straight sex scenes more. Why did they not employ the same passion when they were being amorous with each other? The book was miles better for these scenes.

3)Jack's tache. He had it one minute,then he shaved it off,then all of a sudden he had grown the horrid thing back again. Very bad continuity to sudden grow a tache so fast in less than a minute!
 
I was really looking forward to it but I felt it was a little disappointing. It went on too long and.. I dunno, I just felt it could have been better somehow.

I don't agree that the gay sex scenes were "graphic" - you didn't see anything !!
