Does anyone know when this film is out in the UK as i'm dying to see the film

Sorry if someone have already posted this as i couldn't find it

Cheers

I have seen the film twice now, I agree Jacks mother does push you over the edge, I think she only had 3 lines, but spoke to, understood, and felt for Ennis with looks alone.
Yes Ennis's "I swear", what does that mean?
Is it regret? Justification? or just acknowledgment of his feelings for Jack.
The film is all about love in the wrong climate, a bit like a recurring holiday romance. Perfect in its place but in the real world, it's doomed to failure.
That makes it sound trivial but it's not meant to. I am trying to say is, that without the structures of their society there love was pure and devoted, but the responsibility in their lives made it unsustainable, a bit Romeo and Juliet, but without the suicide.

I agree with you that the more people complain about this films ethics the better, not much better than a moaning bigot is there? ;)

I guess i can see why you say i have a bias, i am a straight male with kiRAB and the subject could not be much further from my day to day life so yes, i spose i may have some kind of bias tho i hadnt thought of that till you mentioned it..................Oh God please dont say im getting old and turning in to my dad!!! ;)

I really just think that as a film (Forgetting the issues) its not actually very good, certainly not as good as the critics would have us believe.
Again this is only my opinion and i would never seek to ram this down anyones throat (Oooeerr mrs ;) )

So it's BAFTA night tonight, and I have high hopes that Brokeback will walk away with best picture, director and adapted screenplay. I hope one of the cast pick up an award, I think Michelle Williams has the best shot. :)

That film has given me a stupendous crush on Mr Gyllenhaal. Sat though Donnie Darko, The Good Girl and a couple of other films with barely a 'he's got quite pretty eyes' and now I'm completely obsessed with the man :o

I am so jealous chickpea :D - I am so dying to see this film, I'm in Ireland and have to wait another couple of weeks - the short story is so fab! :)

Cheers,
June xxx :)

Just come home from seeing it (in an Odeon cinema btw). I didn't cry at the end...but did about 5 mins after leaving the cinema, I guess when the fullness of the film and what happened hit me.

I feel a kind of emptiness now :(

They were so very stuck between a rock and a hard place. Jack's idea would probably have ended up like the blokes Ennis talks about, and the way Ennis saw things wasn't the best way either. But they were just stuck, with not much of a choice. I think that was the saddest and most tragic thing about it.

Highly recommended.

Actually no, not just in my opinion.

In the short story by Annie Proulx it's made clear that Ennis doesn't really know what happened to Jack - and since the story is from his POV it means the reader never knows either. In fact, depending on his mood Ennis changes his mind back and forth as to what killed Jack.

Personally I'm happy believing it was an accident.

I went to see Jarhead the day after seeing Brokeback just to try and get the story out of my head (have you seen jarhead Agent K, it's really good). All I ended up doing was falling madly in lust with Jake G. He has now replaced Kate Winslett as my Hollywood crush.

Since then my husband has bought The Day after Tomorrow (not knowing Jake was in it) and I persuaded him to get Donnie Darko as well.

What with proof out in a couple of weeks there's a bit of a Jake-fest going on at the cinema these days! :D

It certainly deserves an award or two. I really enjoyed it but thought the sense of time was a bit weird. At the start of the film I didn't realise they were in the sixties until the film moved to the seventies!
At one point, Ledger is dancing in 1978 to Steve Earle's The Devil's Right Hand, a clearly too modern-sounding country song that I think was first recorded in 1988!

That is exactly how I feel. Four days later and I still can't stop thinking about it. Everytime I see a picture or read something about it, I get a feeling of sadness wash over me.

If you go to the message boarRAB for BBM on imdb.com, people on there have been debating this film ALOT. It's interesting to read so many points of view, and also see just how much this movie has affected people.

Yes I hope Michelle gets a BAFTA as I have a feeling she is going to lose out to Rachel Weisz in the Oscars. Not because Rachel is the better actress but more because Michelle's role in Brokeback wasn't as pivotal to the plot as Rachel's was.

The whole point of the film is "the gay thing", surely? Not that it really is a "gay" thing necessarily. Ennis would not describe himself as gay. Jack may do, towarRAB the end of the film. They both state that they're not queer, when they're talking in their first "morning after". They're both married and have kiRAB.

The whole effect of the film for me was to underline the responsibilities and roles that life doles out without us asking for them. Society and family, upbringing and education all have a huge impact on both Jack and Ennis.

I saw the film last night, and was gobsmacked by it. I was so utterly moved by the story that I haven't managed to get my head round it yet. I have thought about it all day.

The cinematorgaphy is remarkable (some shots where the screen is just a moving mass of sheep, other shots where the sky goes on forever), and the music is beautiful.

The cinematography and lanRABcapes, and the music, reminded me of one of my alltime favouitre films, David Lynch's The Straight Story.

The emotional impact of Brokeback Mountain is enormous, and the moral issues are huge. I wanted Jack and Ennis to be together and to be happy, but Ennis could never leave his wife. I wanted his wife to be happy, too, and felt she deserved "better" than him. And so on and so on. Utterly believable, and completely shattering. TowarRAB the end, Jack's mother almost tipped me over the edge into tears.

Stunning.

Yup, Jarhead pushed me over the edge - I think the santa hat and g string did it for me :o :D

Back OT - Soooo hoping all four leaRAB get Oscar nominations today (although I've a feeling only Heath is in with a shot of actually getting an Oscar) , every performance was pitch perfect, obviously Ang Lee will be up for best Director and Best Film, but I'd love to see their performances recognised.
