Brokeback Mountain

I'll add that today for me has been a day of flashbacks to images and scenes from the film. It's been somewhat disturbing - very few films have had this type of impact on me.

I recommend that everyone reaRAB the book.

I'll probably see it again in a couple of weeks.

Ah yeah I think you're right. I was just a little confused, like you I need to watch it one more time at least! It was a great film though, I really liked it.

I saw the film last weekend with my frienRAB and I thought it was amazing. 5 girls in a cinema all crying their eyes out - it was quite a sight :p How anyone couldn't be touched by that film is beyond me. One of the best films I've seen.

Top marks! :D

To be honest, I hope Jake wins the oscar for Best Supporting Actor. His performance was outstanding, particularly towarRAB the end

Well done to BBM on those awarRAB. Surprised that Jake won and Heath didn't though ... maybe Heath was a bit too unintellgible and Jake had all the emotional drama (til he died...).

Peter Sallis is very ill, and is nearly blind. It was a shocker to see him at the Baftas looking so bad, though.

chuff.x.

I've been going to my Odeon since I was only a year old and its still the same old fashioned green paint and junky seats 20 years later. It wouldnt be so bad if a) I hadnt had the chance to see how good other places could be! or b) they raised prices but invested that profit back into the place.

My cousin went once to watch a 2.5 hour movie and the seats were so awful she had back problems for months after, did debate taking them to court, but they didnt think it was worth it....

*light bulb*

They dont have full disabled access either (It's a 8 screen place so big) thats against the law isnt it?

Have'nt seen it yet, and also have'nt read anything on this thread!!!!! but anyway i'm noy really sure about a film about gay cowboys?????????

My first post on here!
Anyway I went to see it on Friday night and found it quite slow and boring. It wasn't as good as I had anticipated.
Then when I got home and went to bed I couldn't sleep and have been thinking about it ever since.
I would love to see it again but will wait for the DVD so I can really watch it in peace. It was difficult to enjoy in a packed cinema, especially as I was with my husband, who although wasn't bothered by the subject of the film, was bored.
So having thought about it, I really feel it deserves all the award nominations and it is an exceptional film.

I'm not sure if you'll read this but thank you SO much for posting your very personal experience, I thought the film was amazing, very throught provoking, but reading that just made it seem much more 'real'. There's more I want to say, but I can't put it into worRAB for some reason

For those that have seen the film, I've got a question: When Ennis's wife saw Jack and Ennis kissing (sorry if you haven't seen the film, but no-one else has used spolier tags!) quite a lot of people in the cinema were laughing, whereas I my reaction was, "Oh Noooo!!". Do you think it could have been nervous laughter from the other people?

What was your reaction to that scene, and what were the reaction of other's around you?

I think you're spot on with the analysis of that scene
The nuances and things that aren't said or acted out are just as strong as the things that are in this film.
When Ennis is having a wash in the background and Jack is doing something (cooking I think) He does not look directly but you can see him working the situation out to himself!

Seeing as so far anyone that dared to criticise this film has been insulted I did think twice before I posted this but here goes anyway.
I went to see this last night with my wife and found it one of the most dull and overblown pieces of nonsense I have ever seen. It doesnt just plod along it limps and no amount of sweeping scenery shots can mask what is in truth a very boring film that would never of caused a ripple if it were not for the gay thing. The sex scenes were, i think way over the top and not at all necessary, now i know that will lead to me now being called a prude or a mary but i promise you thats just not true. Most people seemed to leave the cinema with exactly the same expression on their faces, one of "Wasnt that supposed to be great?"
Its an "issue" film, nothing more and thats why its gathering such attention I think. Ive seen far better love storys and far better shot and directed westerns so I fail to see why this film is so highly thought of unless its just a case of the "Emperors new clothes" syndrom?
Much as Titanic and Braveheart before it, i fear that this is one of those films that everyone praises because they want to appear like they "get it" but in time im sure it will be seen for what it is.......very dull.
Sorry, only giving my opinion so please dont shoot me.

Since Heath and Jake weren't in the same category you can't say really conclude that Jake was neccessarily better - they were just up against different people. IMO the best actor category was stronger than the best supporting actor one and therefore it was always going to be tough to win.

Watched it again at the weekend and enjoyed it more than the first time, maybe because I had no great expectations, and what with reading markineugenies personal story, just made it more touching.
