Brokeback Mountain

I don't believe it deserved to win anyway. Crash is a decent film. Potentially it could have been a superb film. It had all the ingredients to make it so. But far too often it fell into that familiar trap, using predictable techniques, every cliche in the book, a contrived web of plots designed to preach to its audience, instead of just...tell a story. That's what I love about BBM - to me it's just a story. It makes the audience think but it doesn't ram any kind of message down their throat in the way Crash did.

But was that the way Jack really died? I felt it was written in such a way that the audience had to make up their own mind about how Jack really died. Was Lureen telling the truth? Or was what Ennis suspected indeed what really happened? That's why they cut to those scenes of him being attacked. That was what Ennis suspected had actually happened - it was never explicitly stated that this was how he died. That was the beautiful thing - the audience were left to make up their own mind about the circumstances of his death.

Just watched this on Channel 4.
How come Jack and Ennis didn't age at all despite 20 years going by??

I wish I looked just like I did 20 years ago. ;)

You just took the worRAB right out of my mouth, about Crash and about the bit in spoiler tags:)

I love this film, I've watched it loaRAB of times and it still gets me everytime. I was an emotional wreck after watching it last night:cry:

It's a shame I never saw it before but I've ordered the DVD after watching it last night. It's one of those films that warrants repeat viewings - I'm sure there's so much I've missed.

Definitely one of the best films I've ever seen.

Hey Agent F.

"Crash" for me I liked how we saw everyone's lives intervined so nicely together and how some of their actions affects some of the other peoples lives.

Also I didn't think they rammed their message down people's throats, if anything they were just showing that the world was not just black & white and how everyone had a negative and positive side to their personalities.
The Part where Matt Dillion's Character saved Thandie Newton's Character's life I thought was one of the most powerful Scenes's I've ever seen in a Film and it still sticks with me today.

After reading what you've said it does make an awful lot of sense now that I think about it:).
I just assumed that we saw how Jack REALLY died, I never thought it could've just been Ennis' Huntch on how he could've really died. But it still would've been nice to so the slow build up to it on how it could've happened but oh well.

I think it's intresting how we all view Films differently and how we think they should've been done in our own opinion:).

Hey Chiaroscuro.

I'm doing Spoilers again just in case because like you say, we are discussing a huge part of the Film here:).

Hmmmmm? That is true about not knowing it's happened until it has happened. After all someone being killed is a random thing in real life and the way Film presented it is realistic like you say. I don't know, I just prefer the Sign Postings in Films but then that's just me. That's just how I prefer Films to be:).

Heath Ledger ruined it for me with his mumbling. Having a friend next to me saying "where are the subtitles?" and "what did he say?"every five minutes ruined the film too.

I have to agree with not being able to hear/work out a lot of the dialogue. I had to keep turning the volume up and then when the aRAB or incidental music came on I was scared nearly half to death!

I thought this was a really powerful and very sad film however.

I loved the scenery and the soundtrack. I found the Love Story very touching. I could watch Jake Gyllenghaal creosoting a Fence. He is very easy on the eye.

I saw this for the first time last night, and I thought it was a decent film.

Michelle Williams was brilliant in it.

One point I want to ask about though, and call me a dumb dumb if you like...

When Jack's wife was explaining to Ennis how he died, she went into a story about a tyre exploding in his face...

Was that the truth? I assume it wasn't as they showed a scene in which it looked like Jack was getting beaten up
- was this how he really died, and was she just covering for him (so's to save the shame on the family for her husband getting bashed to death for being gay)?

Or was that just me????

Please help.... I was tired at this point, so I might have got that completely wrong lol!

What are you talking about, ?

There was one sex scene (first night in the tent ) which was quite darkly lit.

Second night in tent scene they kiss.

The reunion kiss scene after 4 years.

The scene in the motel where they just talk after having sex that the audience don't witness.

Plus one scene with Jack and Lureen
and one with Ennis and Alma.

Hardly having sex all the way through the film.

This was a beautiful film, and the acting was brilliant.

I can understand if it wasn't your cup of tea, some men find it uncomfortable to watch, including my own son !! and that's more to do with the emotion than anything else.
But for a lot of us, it was quite simply a stunning movie.
