I'm sorry, but I love sound quality and there ain't no way I'm gonna pay $200 for a set of headphones. I'm just happy with my $20 sony wraparounds.

Sorry for your loss.

i have $300 bose qc1 headphones.

they're almost 3 years old now. I think i might have to search for some new cans .

I saw a add for bose qc2 cans. Do you think i should buy thoses or a different company this time?

haha, My dad has this setup in india. Harmon kardon setup. ive never heard symphonies that sound so good.

A++

I don't know if I can agree with you void. They said in the 80's that headphones would damage your hearing, they said it in the 90's, and there saying it now. I have to take hearing corses being in avaition about hearing loss. Basicly, you recive hearing loss from the frequincy of the sound+ the decible level. I can't remember the numbers, but I think 90 decibles can cause permament damage after 4 hours, 100 deci after 1, but not sure. I do know that 120 decibles is the verge of pain, and I know this for a fact. The APU's on the P3's are at 130, and I can't stand being around the damn things:sad:

I like the bose can's, they own.

iPod headphones areregulated at 104dB in britain/europe.. not sure about here, if at all..
that's plenty at your rate of equation if someone had them on full for 2 hours, which i know people do..
but i agree, i'm skeptical too.. but i mention it for debate value..

Haha, I agree. The only reason my RIGHT ear is damaged, is because of the dumbfucks in elementary who spat and screamed into my ear! Man, I wish I remembered their names....

Here's the thing though, you've probably never been privy to good sound quality in your entire life, especially not if you're happy with a $20 pair of Sonys. Not that there is anything wrong with a $20 pair of headphones, but to someone who truly appreciates high sound quality they're not going to cut it. Personally, I would never buy Bose. They're overpriced, and their quality has dropped significantly in the past 10 years or so. They're just a run-of-the-mill middle grade audio company now, but keep their high grade prices. Go with Sennheiser, Grado, Beyerdynamic or AKG and you won't be disappointed.

Edit: Skull, I have an old HK receiver that was my dad's, and a newer Denon digital. They both sound amazing, but the warmth of the tubes in the HK is simply awesome.

I used the little headphones that came with my iPod and $20 headphones for years, until I got a pair of these:

Sony MDR-V150s. They're not high-level but the difference in sound quality is just AMAZING. I sit in class with them on and it's like I'm somewhere else. By far the biggest stress reliever I own.

I am really sorry for you, I left my headphones at a friend's house for like a week one time, and I missed them terribly. I hope you get them back soon.

jung.

apparently over the years, quality of stuff has fallen off the cliff. My complete sound system in india is as old as me (16 to be exact i think). Bose speakers bought 18 years ago+ HK amp+HK casette deck+ NAD cd player+ lp player(the manufacturer's name eludes me).

The sound quality i get is as good as the new shit that my friends have, if not bettter. 18 fucking years with those speakers and their still going amazing. I dont really know about bose anymore, but i would love a bang & olufsen speaker system :)

Fuck Sennheiser, you need some Grado's.

They're

1. Not the most modern looking

2. Not the most comfortable

But they do sound fantastic, and they're very lightweight which has it's own comfort advantages. I'm addicted my SR-80s but if you can afford some SR-225s or something I'm sure they'd blow you away. They make some excellent gear without all the flashy form over function bullshit you find with a lot of other companies.

The only real problem is a main part of the Grado design philosophy is their preference for open headphones, so basically they dont do nearly anything to block out surrounding noise, and if you like to listen to things LOUD through your cans, other people are gonna be able to hear it too.

There are reasons you may not want to get them, but I LOVE mine. I wore my first pair out over like 5 years, had a good experience with Grado customer support during that time too, tehy stand by their products, so I'll gladly buy from them again. Good headphones, good prices, and good business practices.... :)

I love them, and since you seem to be an audiophile, (At least to some extent) I figured you'd want to hear about a company that makes headphones that actually caters to audiophiles.

I bought mine from here, but you can find them cheaper from other places.

ok, basically i didnt bother reading everybodies responses, so this may have been said before.

I have gone through about 3 sets of decent quality headphones, ive never encounted your problem, but once i somehow managed to stretch the cable so that inside the driver inclosures the wires became unstuck, if you are game enough (or desperate enough) find a small philips head screw driver and attempt opening the right hand side housing, get you soldering iron ready, and find the loose wire (most likely the thing rattling in you headphones) and solder the bitch back on :) It worked for my HD Philips headphones... but then i permanently fucked them by treading on the frame *SNAP*

Grado also only makes open cans, so they're not a good purchase for anyone seeking sound isolation. Also, the SR80s pale in comparison to even the middle end Sennheiser HD series. That said, I do love my RS2s.

OK, I can understand the need for good sound, but 200$ for headphones???????????????????????????????????????????????????

That just trips me out. Anyways, back to the point of the thread.

thanks for the advice wilko, but im worried that will void the factory warranty. I sent them in yesterday and can expect them in a week, fixed, or not(with some kind of explanation of why it was my fault).

if they are turds and don't fix it, i will try what you did for sure.

i mean, it didnt drop or suffer any kind of impact. i must be a frayed wire or somthing that the power surge fudged up.

They make a HUGE difference. I have $200 headphones I nicknamed gran'pa, 'cause they're big. They're Sony I forget what's it. I bought 'em back in '96 and they STILL work perfectly.

But I didn't pay $200 for them. I got them at a discount.

i found a pair of headphones at work a while ago... they look okay, but you can only get sound out of one ear. one of the many things i should throw into the ocean.... ;)
