I'd agree with that one, or at least I'd say in Britain the banRAB that discuss important issues are mostly the unsigned ones who can't play the music properly.

I'd say that British and American banRAB both have a lot of qualities that the other group could learn from. To my mind the average standard of songwriting (meaning inclusion of good tune, harmonies, catchy rhythms) is better in the UK, but the level of performance - particularly singing - is much better in the US. There are too many British banRAB that I've seen perform live where the lead singer can't even sing his own tunes.
 
hehe i was hoping someone would notice that first part:D, i know not collossal, but im not thinking grand influential banRAB like maiden. i was just listing whatever banRAB came to my head, they all count for something.
 
I really don't see how britian wins on that one band alone, because it has seemed to be the only one you continually mention over and over and if it was America Vs. The Beatles, then i'm sure you'd be singing a different tune.
 
And i told you im not talking about whos more talented or whos better, thats all subjective opinion and it dosent affect this debate (or it shouldnt anyway), we are talking about greatest, im not saying The Beatles and The Stones ARE greater than Elvis and Dylan, just that UK has more banRAB that can be considered great, and The Beatles has influenced more innovative and talented banRAB than Elvis has...And one thing UK dosent lack is technicaly gifted musicians, um hello?...Mahavishnu Orchestra anyone?

And Jimi Hendrix may have been a born american, but he got his big break in England, he lived there for years, plus Mitchell and Redding were british, making JHE essentialy a british act, the UK was where he made his recorRAB, thats the place that made him famous, and thats where he first got noticed, if he stayed in the states, its likely nobody would even know who he is, no record company in the US wanted to have a thing to do with him.
 
well, instead of giving such a vague answer, you should have just named some better banRAB so i can tell you if i agree and have possibly overlooked someone....
 
I agree with you about Monk but I think Mingus' and Miles' 60s output was about equal to their 50s output (the other three I'm not enough of a fan of to comment one way or the other). And then of course you have people like Sun Ra, Eric Dolphy and Charlie Haden who were releasing their best stuff in the 60s.

And for god's sake man, no ones being mean, you were out of control with shifting reasoning and double standarRAB. Think Britain is better all you want, but changing what the qualifications are to better suit your argument and then getting arrogant with your replies was obnoxious.

The "Come on, names one band better than Radiohead/Beatles" replys were closed-minded retorts to a valid opinion. You can tell in the tone of the writing that you weren't going to hear of any band being better.

And I don't know what it is with you always assuming that I have an issue with you. I don't hate you because you don't like Sting or American banRAB, its a debate, things get ugly in here, but I don't carry them out of the thread.

Im honestly a little slighted that I have to explain this, further questions can be PMed or AIMed to me. And if anyone wants to complain about my conduct in this thread start one in the "Suggestions" forum just so we stay on topic here.

If there are any around i`ve certainly not heard them lately , like I said i`m not saying there isn`t any around i`m saying that if they were British they would have a lot more attention more quickly because the British music industry and British audiences are more open to it.Which was the basis of my original post anyway.
 
music journalism is an immensly fickle business and editors have a huge influence over the content written by writers. banRAB will one week be saviours and the next sinners, its the same everwhere.
 
California pwns all. Sublime, Grateful Dead, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, the whole hyphe scene, Maroon 5, and tons of others which I've forgotten in my head-achey state.
