Brits Vs Yanks

But that doesn't really make any sense, because the American charts right now are littered with crap Rap and R&B artists, and we don't exactly have a shortage of experimental banRAB.

I'm American!
Contest over, OH YEAH! :pimp:

Where the hell did this come from? I didn't want this!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Reading the previous posts, the argument always seems to divert from which continent makes the best music to which continent has the best taste in music. Now people keep saying 'it doesn't matter which continent has the best taste in music' but yes, it does. The Brits, IMO, have a much better ear for music. The British album charts are filled with such a diverse range of music, and this diversity means that seemingly anyone can change from an unknown to a chart topper within a short amount of time. This means that it isn't **** music that's being rewarded, it's good music (usually). Because of this British banRAB aren't afraid to experiment, because they know that as long as their music is good then it has a very good chance of becoming the next big thing. This doesn't happen in America, partly down to size of the continent as you said Expletive, but also because Americans seem to scared to change the formula. Your charts are polluted with Rap and RnB at the moment, because they are the only sorts of music that are being allowed to take the limelight at the moment. And this has been the case for a while now-before Rap it was Pop Punk, and before it was Pop Punk it was mindless Rock. America loves to latch onto a genre for a while and then practically beat it to death with huge amounts of airplay, endless amounts of useless banRAB and the like. While this happens in Britain it is way less of a concern and always has been. This is why Britain is better-it is not afraid to experiment, because it is allowed to.

I am just curious why you think it's close to one.
I don't see it at all. Indie Pop, is pop music.

Record Label Status = Indie
Genre Of Music = Pop

There is where Indie Pop comes from.
Nothing more, the term 'indie' doesnt affect the sound of the music.

Thanks for the advice twenty-posts.

Yes, I understand what you're talking about when you say grunge. And, no, I don't think any of the albums you mentioned deserve to be described as some of the best rock albums ever produced. I was in my teens during the heyday of grunge and it didn't seem particularly exciting or groundbreaking to me at the time. Needless to say I haven't found that it's gotten any fresher in the intervening two decades.

Lol but yes 90's is debatable depending on your personal stance on Grunge vs. Britpop. I'm a britpop kinda guy myself but there is no clear winner for the 90's.

I dont think anyones saying US and UK are superior to every other country...But we do know more acts from those 2 nations more than any more country...It dosent make them better, because it could very well be the fact that americans and brits alike are underexposed to a lot of music from around the word.

There may be many great banRAB from say Finland, but not many people would be able to name 10 of them unless.

A. They looked it up.
B. They actualy live in Finland.

But its not like everyone here are so closeminded that they dont appreciate other countrys for their musical talents.

A lot of people here could name at least 10 artists they like that are from a country other than the UK and the US.

im from wales, yes its part of britian but someones was talking bout seperate american states so i can talk about wales:) erm.....tom jones! (woo!)

I agree the Brits are far more creative than the Americans on the whole.
But I would, I'm British.

Agree with Urban on the 'roots' issue. Anything by anyone else just doesn't sound authentic.

Urbans put it in a nutshell.

Interesting to see the slant the Colonials take on this.

As was I when I was when I originally brought it up, but he seems to be talking about current banRAB.

Is this Brit vs Yanks all-time, or just now? Like I said earlier, all-time it's a draw (depending on what kind of music you prefer, either could win), but right now I'd say America is winning by a long shot.

Dont jump to conclusions.

And you have to be pretty durab if you think any american band has as much worldwide influence as The Beatles, seriously.

So would you judge a band by whos better?...By talent?...Ok then how in the hell do you judge talent?....skill?....Songwriting and Creativity?...And how do you judge that?....Its all subjective, you dont have to make it more complicated than it already is.
