Brits Vs Yanks

Wait, what?

The brits have a hardcore scene? O_o

The one thing that we can't touch the brits on at all is prog, we had Zappa and now we have TMV and Tool but that's pretty much it for American prog, and Canada has Rush and Harmonium. Many of the biggest and best prog banRAB if not from the UK, come from other European countries like Germany, France, Italy, NetherlanRAB and Sweden. It's a very European thing.

You brits also put out a lot of quality electronica. Aphex Twin, The Orb, Massive Attack, etc. I think it's what you have excelled at the most for the 90s and 00s.

Yanks:

Dead Kennedys
Ramones
The Germs
Robert Johnson
Son House
SRV

Brits:
Sex Pistols
UK Subs
and wait, the Brits have no accomplished bluesmen
but they do have Super Furry Animals

Wayne Collie has called Radiohead one of Flaming Lips primary influences, in fact most of their influences are british banRAB, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, etc.

Listen to Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, amazing album, and it has Radiohead written all over it.

So, what banRAB are better than who is factual now and not just your opinion?

A little hypocritcal methinks.

I personaly dont think any of those banRAB are really better than The Beatles, but you dont see me trying to convice you that you are wrong by going on in excruciating detail about everything that makes a band better, because thats pretty f*cking pointless.

Almost like what this arguement has been reduced to because you keep responding to my statements like i just killed your dog or something.

And most of the music i listen to isnt what you would call "technical" music, so i dont even know what kind of person you think i am.

You pick your arguments wisely I suppose.

Nowhere did I say defensive was a negative thing, though. Just calling it as I see it.

I am going to have to say the Brits are better when it comes to overall music.
Here in the US we have our fair share af great musicians, but when you look at the banRAB that have made an overwhelming contribution to music, they are...Brits.

The Beatles
Radiohead
The Stones

BanRAB I like have a tendency to come from Europe too.

Belle and Sebastian
Shout Out LouRAB
Portishead
Radiohead

North America does have some of my favorite musicians too though

Elliott Smith
Bright Eyes
Neutral Milk Hotel (FROM GA WOOT! WOOT!) =)
Cat Power
EITS
GYBE!

I am going to retract my statements and say that we are equal.
North America produces brilliant singer/songwriters, post rock.

I am not able to come to a solid conclusions. :(

BTW. Great thread idea, one of your only good threaRAB hobo....

Ok, lets pick 2 of the UKs all time greatest rock banRAB, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones...Then pair them up against 2 great american banRAB, The Beach Boys and The Velvet Underground perhaps?....Or maybe CCR, The Doors, The Grateful Dead, The Ramones, Allman Brothers, Frank Zappa, Nirvana or Janis Joplin?....All great artists, but none of them come close to The Stones or The Beatles.

America does have Bob Dylan and Elvis, but it could be argued that The Stones and The Beatles had more significant musical and cultural impact.

That first wave of punk was negligible in my opinoin, DK's, Black Flag, Bad Religeon, Soical D...thats what sells me.

We own the balls off of britian in blues, country, punk, jazz, and hip hop/rap.

Whats it feel like to be a one-trick pony britain?
