Brits Vs Yanks

I don't agree with that. The only reason it seems that way is because your banRAB get more recognition over there than our original banRAB do over here. The fact that most people don't even know that Punk started in New York and most don't know who Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, and others are should tell you a lot about how much pride Americans take in their music.

I personally think the Brits do music better, and it's not just because I am British. I agree with Urban, the British are much more open to experiment, and this is where we win. The Yanks are to formulaic. For me the Brits win, hanRAB down.

Well I don`t know about anybody else but I was referring to the last 25 years not just the last couple. Both those banRAB you mentioned would be very low on my list of 'great indie banRAB'

and you get banRAB writing about the mundane reality of british life. they may not be your favourite banRAB, but the libertines, the streets, jamie T, Get cape blah, arctic monkeys and hard-fi all talk about what your suggesting. Hardly as if its something british music avoiRAB. so to say british music is all twee is a completely unfounded remark. I've never said there was a golden age, its just heritage. British people seem to have a unique pride for their country which with some banRAB comes out in the lyrics. I guess you could call it patriotism.

And your VU point is useless, that wasnt Reed's style.

I have heard a good deal of Post Rock banRAB, i still think they stand out the most.

And i never said The Beatles were the best, i said they were the greatest.

HURR DURR no you weren't

Mostly all of my favorite banRAB are British so yeah that's where I stand on it. But to say The Supremes and the Temptations aren't excellent, is just wrong. Shame on you James.

No no i`m just saying what i`ve always said , that Britain seems more open to newer music than the U.S.

Actually in an ironic kind of way at the moment No 2 in the British singles chart is Orson , an American 'indie' band that have done f*ck all in their own country.Following a long tradition of American acts coming to the UK to get noticed first because their own country doesn`t (Hendrix , Pixies , Pavement , White Stripes etc etc)

Well, it's what we're all familiar with, especially since most music recorded before the 50's was either singles or is very hard to get now. And then go even further back and everything becomes compositions, that are still played by the major orchestras, but no one is going to remeraber the years that Beethoven was active unless they're a bit classical buff.

True, they may not be that different anymore, but you can still decide which continent makes the better music judged upon different things. It's like comparing two banRAB with in the same genre with the same style of music-there's always going to be one band you like a little bit more.

I don`t know about that , I can see what you`re saying but on the other hand most of the major labels are U.S. based so what you get forced down your throat over there we get as well , so British banRAB are trying to compete with that also. You turn on MTV over here & I doubt it`s that different to whats shown over there.
