Brits Vs Yanks

So then these diverse American indie acts , where can I find a few that mix the likes of rock, soul , psychadelia , funk , dance , electronica and so on in the way that people like Primal Scream , David Homes , Koushik and others do here?

I shortened his whole quote so it was less of a bitch to read, I think you kind of shortsided the U.S. I don't know a hella load about british music (still trying to learn =/) so if I come across as unfair its out of ignorance.

In the 80s we had the dead kennedys who are one of the greatest punk banRAB ever, duh and in the 90s we had more then a bunch of 90s mainstream rock acts that you listed. There was Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate, Converge, At The Drive-In, Capn Jazz, and alot of other good banRAB.

Theres more to the U.S now also the emo scene is thriving (She Died Real Pretty, Circle Takes The Square, Funeral Diner). Between The Buried and Me's Alaska is one of the best albums of 2000 and the Fall Of Troy are an extremely talented group, as are Blood Brothers/Neon Blonde. Rocky Votolato is also a very good acoustic artist out of seattle i've grown to like alot recently. Thrice is a very talented and varied group as shown by their last three albums.

This whole arguement seems like its based around indie banRAB, theres more to music then that one genre...

Heavy Metal was born in England, anyone who disagrees with that is simply wrong.

You can also add prog rock, pyschedelic rock, britpop and post punk to that list, all of which have had some kind of impact on american music...And while punk argubably began in the states with The Ramones, it exploded in the UK with The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Buzzc0cks, The Damned...Thats where it became a worldwide phenomenon.

So a selection of sh*tty overproduced crap is enough to write off all the amazing banRAB that have come out of canada, yet all the insanely uninspired sh*t that comes out of the US is just not mentioned at all?

Here is the ultimate music battle-since the beginning of time, which continent has made the best music-the Brits or the Yanks? Argue now...

i think the Brit scene at the moment is a lot more diverse and experimental than the U.S. Whether that constitutes to it being better is debateable - i am personally finding US music i tad more engaging at this moment in time, in Britian we kind of have quite a sycophantic attitude towarRAB banRAB that are no better then average - i myself am occasionally guilty of that.

Nice to see you saying you live in Britain, in the past you've said you live in ENGLAND. And shunned the Britain thing, although I'm the same. I only live Britain when talking about banRAB. Primal Scream are just as much my band as someone from Scotland. :D

My case in point. You don't like British music as a whole. I could argue the same about American music but I won't because I happen to like American music.

I remeraber reading a post where you said that all modern music came from America which is true (I will find the post- I scoured this one but couldn't find it) but I am counter-balancing that with the fact that we took your building blocks and improved upon them.

I am English and should rightly champion our music but I have never once said that it's better than any other music. I am arguing the fact that you don't seem to want to give our music any respect whereas I have always gave respect where it's due.

How dare I? Well you did hanker for an argument in a lounge thread so I thought I would oblige with a well reasoned reply but instead you think it's a wholly personal attack:(

My music collection is probably split 40-40 regarding U.S and U.K with the other 20% being other countries, however I have to champion my nations music regardless of what era was better.

The difference here is that whilst I prefer UK music as a whole, I listen to U.S music just as much and acknowledge that whereas you seem hellbent on deconstructing our music even if it has not been as relevant recently.

Who has the best music? No one. We both have some awesome banRAB and some utter crap. I'm just sticking up for the music that has shaped me.

Okay then, let's change this to a global thing. I made it only Brits v Yanks because I thought that it was a bigger issue without a load of unknown, ultra-foreign banRAB floating around. I didn't want that basically because I don't listen to anything outside of Great Britain and the USA. But if you lot want it changed, then go ahead. So people, who makes the better music? The Brits, Yanks, Canadians, Croatians, French, Norweigans, Italians, Germans, Spanish, Portugese.......

I would say that the Brits definatly started the Rock & Roll scene. They artists like the Beatles and other banRAB are pioneers. The Yanks I would say opened the Rock & Roll scene to a new look with sounthern rock. Like Lynard Skynard. But all in all, I think the Brits win this one. America is known more for our "Country" music. Which is by the way terrible. Also I want to add. Why is'nt this a poll?

Yeah I forgot PJ was a puddle jumper. Anyway, this argument is usually stupid but since the whole first pages was Brits slagging statesmen and one atlantian defector, I figured I'd throw out what we're good for.

America turns out alot of banRAB in a short period, its sort of like birth, you release a million banRAB, one has to get pregnant off success.

and to you arrogant folk who said "well we have these guys, so we win" let me just say

Radiohead
The Smiths

America Wins.
