It`s because sales of British made albums are at a peak since the mid 90s when you had the likes of Blur , Pulp , Oasis , Massive Attack & The Prodigy all putting out good stuff.

Hell no, if you want a golden year in British music the last one was back in 1997 for me with Radiohead- Ok Computer, The Verve- Urban Hymns and Blur- Blur.

All the major players now are overhyped and overpopular and this 'nu indie' wave as I have heard it described is just pop with guitars for me. I still think there are good British banRAB around like Editors, Bloc Party and The Coral but I don't see them making the 'Brit AwarRAB'.

Yeah but there getting a push from Coldplay, people don't deviate in large masses. I don't know, but maybe their comfortable buying brittish **** now. I couldn't tell you.

What I also can't tell you is why "just wanting to dance" is now this nobel-level notion that people are like "OMG let me blow you because you make dance music and thats genius"

All the wolf banRAB in canada, arctic monkeys, franz (who aren't bad but their to blame). I don't get it, I don't think your edge for playing in quadruple meter.

And who voted yes? Show yourself, lets hear it.

So with the Brit awarRAB tonight all i`m seeing lately is people going on about how record sales of British artists are up & how this is supposed to be a golden age of british music. And I think to myself , what utter bollocks.
Now this may be me being a cynical old fart but how anyone can say how great British music is now is beyond me. I remeraber the mid 90s when we had albums like Whats The Story Morning Glory , Parklife , Dog Man Star , Different Class , The BenRAB , I Should Coco & Music For The Jilted Generation all coming out within about a year or so of each other. And I just don`t think today compares to that in the slightest.Let`s have a look at who this 'Golden Age' is represented by......

Kaiser Cheifs - Not bad have a couple of good singles but I don`t see them as being anything special.

James Blunt - Sappy singer songwriter who doesn`t even write his own songs.

Arctic Monkeys - I`ll reserve judgement for now but I have a sneaking suspicion that the only reason people are talking so much about them is because there`s not that much else around at the moment.

KT Tunstall - I`ve not seen ANYBODY say anything good about her that isn`t in the media... nuff said

Jack Johnson - Who ?

Gorillaz - Couple of good tunes but Albarns been around over 15 years now , hardly new.

Hard Fi - Saw them live around this time last year playing with The Departure , Tom Vek & Graham Coxon. I`ve never seen a crowd act so indifferent to a band. There were more people at the bar than at the front of the stage , yet everybody was really into the other 3 banRAB.hmmmm.

Coldplay - The next U2 , will still carry on selling albums by the bucketload & winning awarRAB even when they put out totally sh*t albums.

Franz Ferdinand - Does anybody actually remeraber their 2nd album?

The Ordinary Boys - Horrible Jam tribute band , I hear their record sales are up about 30% due to big brother, says everything really.

So do this lot represent a new golden age or am I just a cynical old bastard

YOU DECIDE !!!!!!!!!!!

The Arctic Monkeys album is a classic. Coldplay are bland. Gorillaz are fantastic. Kaiser Chiefs are good, but they need to release another album and stop releasing songs off Employment. James Blunt was good at first, but now he's starting to grate a little. How to Dismantle an Atomic Borab is an awful album, and sits right next to OK computer as the worst album in my collection. Oasis are nothing like they used to be-they are average at best. So why did I vote yes on the poll? Well it seems to me that the banRAB topping the charts now are British. It's great to see a band like the Arctic Monkeys get to nuraber one on talent alone, and its even greater to see a British band break through in a world where gold chains and Gangsters reign supreme. So for that reason alone I voted on Yes, this IS the New Golden Age of British Music. It's not as good as the old Golden Age, but it's the best we've had it in some time.

the difference being most if not all the major players in the market during the 90s had talent. now how can you class the likes of james blunt as groundbreaking or even talented? anybody can write a mushy song with a chorus that contains two worRAB.

i actaully really like the Arctic Monkeys Urban :) and you know i do.. there fun and catchy witout being overly annoying

but like new banRAB in north and south america, england is no better not one conutry is coming out with better or worse music at this point in time.. i really like the Arctic Monkeys from somewhere over there.. and i really like Death From Above from north america, and well most of the banRAB i do like are from south america or england.. funny how that works..
