Bringing a notebook and pen in a restaurant?

Some people just want to be a-holes. I also do that. My friend told me note to bring mine into a place where he was meeting his "girlfriend" and I told him, well I'll sit over here and you can catch a ride with her. I write plays, jokes, poems, lyrics, and other stuff. I think jealousy is a part of the "embarrassment".
 
My cousin is a poet, musician, and a comedian and he usually carries a small notebook around with him into restaurants incase he thinks of something to write about. I see no problem with it, but other members of the family feel it's embarrassing. My question is what is your take on it? Do you think it's ok for him to bring a small notebook(fits in his pocket) into a res truant or diner? He usually doesn't bring it into a fancy place unless he has a show coming up and is going over his material. Do you see a problem with it?
 
I do not see a problem with this. Many other people I have seen also have notebooks also with them at all times. Since he's a poet, musician, and comedian he's going to have to have one in case he gets some ideas because, he might not remember what he was going to write or what the idea he had was.
