Bridge To Terabithia

According to the IMDB it's out in the UK on the 4th of May.

Supposedly it's a terrible adaptation of the book, but it seems to have a good rating on the IMDB so maybe it's decent if you disregard any connection to the book.

I'm more interested in seeing The Last Mimzy. It looks pretty good from the trailer.

It has some terrific performances from the kiRAB but seems very disjointed. Nice effects though.
AnnaSophia Robb looks like a cat in human form.
There's an earlier version made in 1985 with Annette O'Toole.
Apparently this is an incredibly poplular book in the US but I can't say I've ever heard of it.

Whoever decided to launch this movie the same day as Spiderman 3 watch shot. It looks like a quality family film, and it most likely will get buried at the box office. Shame.

Its a great family movie. The trailer makes it look likes its just full of special effects and a fantasy movie. But that makes up less than a quarter of the film its based on frienRABhip between to kiRAB.

I wanted to like it, I really did. BUT in the end I found it cheesy and morbid. It had too much religion (which for me is any :D ). And it the "moral" of the story is not only about retribution of biblical proportions, but was also completely lacking in any subtlety whatsoever.

I understand that Walden Media was set up to make generally "nice" films that are sympathetic to religious and "family" values, and I'd think twice about going to see another of their productions.

I completely agree about the religion thing, really wasn't needed and the rest of it was just plain corny and sometimes cringe inducing.

I reallllly tried to like it, but i ended up sitting there, shuffling round, wondering when the pain would end and by a glance round the cinema we weren't the only ones. They really shouldn't have advertised it as they did on the trailers.

On a side note did anyone else wonder why they just didn't imagine any danger away e.g. the squarriors, they made them, they can just imagine them away....

I found it hard to care about them because i knew they weren't in any real danger...IT'S ALL IN YOUR HEAD...well until the last 30 minutes

I think the idea was that since the demonic animals were based upon the school bullies, that they had to defeat them in their imagination in order to be able to deal with them in real life. Or something like that.

It certainly was very different from what I expected, very sad and moving. I think parents were more affected than children at the showing I was at.

Personally, given th subject matter I think it was bound to be a bit sentimental in parts but overall it was very well doneand the child leaRAB were excellent.

I want to see it again

The story is great, once you understand it fully - the fantasy and the problems the kiRAB have and how they both the issues connected together

Spoiler
The bond that Leslie and Jess have help Jess realize that he is not a nobody. Leslie creates a purpose for Jess that he didn't have before. And then, when Leslie dies, Jess shares this incredible world that he and Leslie created with his sister, creating a bond with his family that he never had before. And for those of you who say the magical world of Terabithia is stupid, it's an escape from all of Jess and Leslie's problems. Jess's family is always arguing and stressed from lack of money, and there are bullies at school. When they go to Terabithia, the monsters symbolize their problems in real life, therefore helping them conquer their fears in the real world

I thought this film was fairly average throughout most of it, but then there were big changes which really improved the film, and took it in a direction I never thought it would. I don't often warn for spoilers in my reviews in here, because they are already under cuts, but please dont continue if you want to see the film, because they will ruin it.

There were some delightful scenes early on, I loved Leslie and Jesse running the race, I loved the different camera angles when they were swinging on the rope, and I loved the bond that developed between them. Although nothing special really, I thought that the two lead kiRAB were teriffic actors (and looks wise, was it just me or did Leslie remind anyone else of a young Keira Knightley?). When it was revealed that she had died, I was actually in shock. I couldn't believe that they had done that. It really took the film in a totally new direction, and it really really made me think.

Like I said, it changed into a different movie...I half expected her to turn up at the end, even just in his imagination, but I am quite glad she didn't, it made it all the more poignant.

There were some creepy scenes, the black smoke being one such example (what is this, Lost?!), and a lot of cute scenes which worked well. Zooey Deschenel was marvellous as the teacher too.

So, what chugged along as a nice, but average film, pulled off a mid-movie swing, and turned it into a good one.

7/10

I really appreciated this film. It reminded me frequently of another heartwarming coming-of-age film from my youth "My Girl" the musical score by Aaron Zigman was also very good. I liked his work so much in fact that I called up a contact a few days after seeing the film and managed to get hold of a promotional release direct from the composer himself. The official soundtrack release by Disney was "poor" no surprises there then.
