Bride of Frankenstein BBC4

Im getting to love BBC4. Tonight at 10pm they are showing Bride of Frankenstein. I remember when I was a lad watching these classic b/w horror films on tv after the 10pm news. This is a classic.

Me too! BoF is a wonderful movie, full of classic performances. In particular, that unique character actor Ernest Thesiger as Doctor Pretorius. Thesiger was reportedly a friend of Queen Mary (and her crochet partner) and mentioned in dispatches during World War One. Years later, he was asked about his experiences in the trenches. "Oh my dear" he replied. "The people....the noise!!"

It's a shame that the print quality looked like an old vhs.

The DVD quality is far better, last night was far from broadcast quality

Agreed, I copied it on to DVD+R and it looks well crap.

My old 30 year old Super 8mm film version has better steadiness, contrast and resolution.

You'd think the BBC would insist on a top quality copy.

Weird ratio too.
