BREW/JAVA apps and how to install them?

Apparently the Motorola V3c only uses BREW, but I can't seem to figure out how to install them (or where) or how to enable the BREW App Manager. I want to install a few IM apps and a browser on my phone, but how can I do this?

I'm sure there is a seem edit that will allow for the execution of Java.

If not, you may have to firmware flash the phone to a different carrier that supports Java applets.

I figured as much....

Which is my best bet, then?

Here's an off-topic but good brain buster: I should be able to get EVDO because I live in Santa Fe, and according to Lexie69x, who lives in ABQ, she gets EVDO from a PRL she uploaded, which killed my phone. I had to reflash it back to normal. What's with that?

Go to MotoModders.net and download one of the advanced seem editors. I saw several of the setting bits for Java using one of these. Also, search Mark Venture's page for a list of seem edits.

*EDIT: You may want to check the Bell forums and Verizon forums for the Bell monster, because I think the Bell firmware allows Java.

Thanks, berry. I'll try those. My phone has PRL 1040, and I'm in Santa Fe. The PRL won't change if I attempt OTA activation, though.

^^^^^ I just recently bought a brand new cricket samsung r610 that had the 1040 prl on it, The phone would not OTA so I took it in they gave me a new phone and it did OTA to the EVDO prl. What call plan do you have? Next time you drive near albuquerque try *228 if that does'nt work, might be your phone.

Heh. I never had a reason yet to go anywhere near ABQ. I should just load that PRL manually... The last two I tried didn't work for some reason. As for the V3m hack, I wasn't really concerned with that, but I'll take a look at that.

I can't find a Bell monster flash anywhere, just an upgrade. I DID find an Alltel monster, which was really glitchy. Should I flash to Alltel, then up to the Bell? I heard Bell uses Alltel and Sprint software anyway....

By the way, this is a little OT, Berry, but I noticed one of your phones is listed as having "UNLIMITED Clicks." Does that mean you can download whatever the heck you want with no prepaid charges? If so.... I don't know how that's possible, but that's just GENIUS!

So I take it you copy the settings from the phone, download a few things, then overwrite the settings file with the old one? Does this still work? I didn't see anything worth downloading from there, anyway, but it's still a pretty sneaky hack!

No, you must perform the settings overwrite first. And yes, it still works.

Follow my instructions from the previous link and it will all make sense.
