Breaking the Mold: Why I Learned to Like G Gundam

It's the same, including general dialogue edits. The subs provided are consistent with the Japanese audio.

Probably the funniest part is that this gives you alot of variations on Chibodee's dialogue. In the original, he's a very Engrish spewing guy whilst the dub made him a bit more tame.

Chibodee crashes his Core Lander whilst saving Domon from a killer:

Japanese- "J-Jesus..."
English- "*groan*..Now where did he go...."

Because then if he had two, he could make a "GAWDO FINGAAA SWOOOORRRDDD!"

(Which of course would turn into two sworRAB because he's awesome like that.

Take that DRAGOONS and Trans-Am Raiser sworRAB)

Well, Sekiha Tenkyoken is charged with two hanRAB (being a generic anime hand blast attack). Plus Domon does tend to add 'God Finger' to its name when using it....does that count?

Huh...

You know that's right he does call it the "BAAAAKURETSU...GOD FINGER: SEKIHA TENKYOKEN!"

I just found this. Yeah, no, this doesn't happen like that Char. I mean in real life he would be owning you. (Okay actually, maybe that does work)

Well, Wing is just wooden puppets spouting hollow war philosophy, so it fits.

GWO: "I praise G and THIS is how you thank me?!"

GAH! I'm sorry! Go to your happy place! Marina in a fancy dress!!

Heh. One of these days I'll have to take that on with all its issues too, if only to complement what I did for Endless Waltz. I've got other things in mind first, though. So many things that deserve attention, so little time...

Garfield, I actually don't see what's wrong with the scene, but oh well. Heero isn't exactly lively in Japanese either, you know.

It's just so...flat. I mean, yeah, I'm probably the first person to give blandest voice to Heero's original but I mean, it comes off so wooden that I just can't enjoy it in English (Probably also the fact that I never saw it on Toonami as it had finished before I got Cable)

Then again, I guess it's better than "I'm-totally-reading-from-a-script" SEED/Destiny's dubs and "This.....has...to be a....bad joke..." Marina (Really didn't like Marina's voice in 00)

(Don't worry HC, I didn't forget about every secondary character in G Gundam sounding like professional wrestlers)

In honesty, I think Wing was the best Ocean Gundam dub. Part of that might be it was before they became oversaturated for them, but it also had alot of sincerely good performances. The only really bad one I think was Septem

"I thought the shuttle was thaaaat way? AF-LAC!!"

I got 20 seconRAB into that before I just stopped. He sounRAB like freakin' Cobra Commander.

(HC, what's with your Decade part of the sig?)

I respect and appreciate G's place in history. It's got plenty of quality moments, but truthfully, I've tried watching it again a couple of times, and I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

It's just too much. Yes, I get that it's Super Robot. I understand that. It's just a bit too much. I can see bits and pieces of it on youtube and wax poetic appreciatively, but I don't see myself watching the whole series through again.

Were your ears under attack by mobile suits from Gundamium alloy made in outer space?

(Just a joke about Kamen Rider Decade's design. It's a paraphrasing of a flasrabroadack Homer has to his childhood in an old Simpsons episode. Just replace 'Kamen Rider' with 'President')

Ah, that's why I thought that sounded familiar. Good ol' Watermelon-spidey head! (looks at av slowly nodding)

Anyway, back on topic, transforming fish and soraberos are cool!

Gundam is a franchise. When something becomes a franchise, it attracts sticks in the mud with very firm ideas about what they want...which is usually the original work packaged over and over. G was a noteably radical departure from the basic trappings of past Gundams that various fans dislike it. Because a show about giant robots piloted by angst ridden teens with space butterfly psychic powers is a sacred text.
