Break during films at cinema

Why dont they bring this back. It really annoys me that i have to sit and watch the whole of the film in one go. Why dont they bring back the 10 minute break inbetween so we can go to the toilet and stretch our legs.

I would have loved to see avatar, but i will wait for the DVD release.

I agree. When I bought the film 'Oliver!' I was delighted to find that it still had the 'intermission' card and the music they composed for it in the middle of the film.

I remember when they used to have two films on as a double feature!...and even long films had an intermission ! ah those were the days !! plenty of time for going to the loo and a choc ice! or tub of ice scream!

The local village cinema we go to (where I used to live) still does have a break halfway through the movie. And a bar - where they take your interval orders before the movie starts, and your dirink is waiting for you as the first half of the movie finishes.

And you can even take your pint (in a plastic skiff) into the theatre when the second half starts, if you haven't yet finished.

My local cinema does it if the film is over 2 and a half hours. I saw King Kong & TLOTR trilogy there and each time they had a 15 minute break which was a relief as I think the whole cinema rushed to the bogs :D

Intervals in small independent cinimas still exist on long films, this is due to the fact that the projector has only 1 reel on it and can only hold so many feet of film, so on long films the intermission is there so the projectionist can rewind the current reel and then change it for the second one.
Big multiplexes often use more than one projector I believe, and this means its seemless for the change in reels.
Thats the technical bit lol

I think our local Cineworld do this for the OAP daytime screenings.

They also serve you a nice cup of tea and put plastic covers on the seats, in case you have a wee accident. :)

So not only do you have to put up with people coming in late at the start of the film, you have to put up with them coming back in late after the intermission as well. :D

I would hate it if they brought the intermission back at my local cinema (mind you it's a Vue, so that's not likely).

Not quite.

Big multiplexes use one projector with the the complete movie on a no-rewind platter.

Small independent cinemas (if they haven't updated) use two projectors and change over from one to the other at the end of a reel. Look carefully and you will see the changeover cues (usually dots or circles that appear in the right top corner of the screen) that projectionists use to time the changeover.

*in best Darth Vader impersonation* Nooooooooooo!

I had Ben Hur on VHS years ago and it had a 30 minute intermission in the middle of the film. Stupidest thing ever. I have a pause button if I want to stop the film for a break.
