I've been lucky so far and haven't had to replace one yet. I was on a road trip and had the right one pop out a bit, thank goodness I was able to convince it to go back in.
Thanks for the posting, I hate to say it but it probably will come in handy!
I just used JB weld on all of mine as they loosened and would not hold. All solid as a rock, cant get them to slip at all. Tried the inserts......what a pain.
Thanks for the info on this, I have one of mine that is loose in the fairing and have not done anything about it yet because I didn't know what I would do with it other than epoxy, looks like my search for repair is over, thanks.
Did it just like Harley-Jones said to do it.......the second time. The ears where the slot is broke off the first time. It only took about 15 minutes beginning to end. It's tight now.
Subscribed...good reference for any future problems. Had this happen on my 2003 Ultra and was able to fix with epoxy. Always wondered how long the epoxy fix would hold though. This seems better, more permanent fix.
I went to the stealer to get some of these inserts and they didn't have a single one. Looked on this thread and according to the picture they looked just like a sink they use in wood with 1/4 threads. Off to menards and they had a whole pile of brass ones for .29 cents. Bought 10 of them. I am willing to sell to anyone that wants to give me 1.79$ each. Sorry I will not have them in the HD bag.
Sorry for that, just for FYI if you have a local menards they have a bunch of them way cheaper than HD sells them for.
