Brass Fairing Inserts (pics)

thanks for this post, i did not know they made a nutsert repair, my windshield nuts are puling out, i was about to start looking for a replacement inner fairing,or was gonna drill all the way thru and put longer bolts ad nuts on it, you saved me a lot of money and anguish..

I had one that backed out, I just fixed it with some epoxy and vasoline on the threads so that if some epoxy were to get on them the screw would still back out..

fast easy fix and retains the oem setup

Yep slotted end in first. The first one I had replaced was done a the dealer. A month later it broke in half. When I removed it you can tell that the HD tech installed it the wrong way. Replaced it again myself and this time installed it slotted end in and no problems.

Just found a problem with the middle one where it looks like the hole for the insert opened up a little bit causing the insert to not tighten correctly and just slide out of the fairing.

Took a little bit of Teflon tape and wrapped around it for a temp fix. Plan on changing out the shield again this weekend so I'll probably have to use some thing to glue it place or take it to the dealer to see if there's anything they can do to fix the problem.

I knew I saw this thread, so I hit the search, and there it was. I noticed my windshield was loose on the left side, pulled the fairing and there it was, hanging onto the screw. Putting the fairing back on I stripped the stand-off on one of the screws that holds the fairing on. Thanks for sharing it with us.
