Brand New 2009 Kawasaki Ninja 650R?

I am more used to buying used cars, where the dealer can tell me $12,000 and I can aim for $9,000. With a new bike, I know the rules are a bit different. The MSRP on the 2009 Kawasaki Ninja 650R Brand new is $6,799. The dealer wants no less than 6,700 out the door after plates, tax, and prep fees (which I would NEVER go for prep fees if it was a car). Would I be unreasonable to ask for $6,500 out the door, or is $6,500 even too much for this bike? I also take into account that this is not the season to sell bikes, therefore the dealer should work a bit harder for me since its January and not April. What do you guys think?

My first bike was a 2007 kawasaki ninja 650r. I now have a honda cbr 600. The kawi's a really good bike. I paid 6,300 for mine. Im not sure what kind of prep fees the dealers looking for but when i got my kawi they charged me what they said was a freight and assembly fee which was an extra 1000k or so. I found out when i got my honda at the honda shop those fees were illegal and got my 1000k back. you have to watch some dealerships and being it is winter they should work with you on the price. dont sigh nothing till your happy with the offer and look around and compare.

Its a buyers market right now, can't hurt to ask. Also, try working with more than one dealer, make them compete for your business.
