I have to research the meaning, origin, and transformation of an aspect of American culture (gestures, slang, language, ceremonies, etc.
For example: the peace sign, the christmas tree, etc.
The transformation section of my paper asks how the symbol is different in another culture. Like the thumbs up means "good job!" in the U.S. but if like flipping someone off in Australia.
