why was he omitted at the oscar tributes for people that had died recently? and they really bigged up heath Ledger?:confused::confused::confused:

I would not have known had I not read it on RAB. Are there double standarRAB or do some people just command more respect than others?:confused::confused:

The official 'word' was that they didn't have time to fit everyone in. Which is a load of bull in my opinion. They can't find two seconRAB to flash his name and photo up? Rubbish. I have no idea why they wouldn't include him. They included Heath so they should have included Brad too.

Go with that thought.

Brad Renfro was an actor that showed such promise in his films.

He blew it, he loved his drugs, he's DEAD.

I feel absolutely no form of empathy towarRAB his careless choices in life. At all.

He deserved to be left out of the Oscars, and that is clearly the reason why he was.

People that consciously choose and then let themselves be consumed and utterly taken over by drugs and alcohol deserve nothing but their life cut short as far as I am concerned. If I offend people by saying that? Quite frankly I'm not interested whether I do or not.

I've never taken illegal drugs, or had any love for alcohol (a hugely overrated substance if there ever was one), I haven't drunk any for over ten years now, being drunk is something I have absolutely no interest in ever experiencing and I have a happy, enjoyable life with a youthful healthy appearance to boot. The large majority of people I come across call me a flat out lier when I tell them my real age. They usually guess around 23-24. My hair doesn't give me away because I had a transplant done when I was 23. I've never understood why people feel the need to turn to these substances to feel better about themselves. It's pointless if you ask me. I've had moments in my life where I have been really stressed out and been heavily depressed, yet I got through it without having to turn to alcohol and drugs, and here I am today, 30 years old, hugely successful in my role in the entertainment business and enjoying every minute of my life.

Brad Renfro will be remembered... but not ever for the right reasons, and that's how it should be.

It seems the majority feel Brad was poorly treated by the academy snub. I posted something similar in the other thread but it does show that we did a much better job at the Baftas. Not only did Brad get mentioned by Heath's tribute was also much nicer I thought. Must also big up Sir Ian McKellen's written tribute to Brad on his site again too. Perhaps we just have more class? ;) Who knows.

I do however think that given the amount of press I've seen regarding the snub and just general comments from people - Brad may not have been poster-boy for the Oscars but it seems that many did have a lot of respect for him and his work. Maybe that's a better tribute in the long run.

I don't think that people's life choices or circumstances of death really come into this.

The question is whether Brad Renfro made a significant enough contribution to cinema to be included in the Oscar's brief tribute to those who died over the past year.

This list will always be subjective but in my opinion Renfro should have been included out of respect to a career that started when he was very young and for his contribution to some important films such as Bully and Ghost World where he turned in decent performances.

Others may disagree and that is their perogative but I don't think that the manner of his death is pertinent to the discussion.

I agree entirely. Surely the point of that section is to remember and honor people's professional lives, not their personal ones.

I'd also add stand out performances in films such as The Client and Apt Pupil to the list too. Even in smaller roles, such as his part in Sleepers were well performed. For such a young guy with no professional training he was fantastic. I think he often got overlooked because the roles he chose were quirky and offbeat. Not always likable characters either. Interesting though, and never a poor performance.

If they shunned Brad due to drugs then that is hypocritical. How many actors take drugs? I would think it would be easier to find ones who didn't. But who knows why they didn't include him, for whatever reason it was still wrong.
