Brace after hardware removal?

Hello ,
I hope everyone is doing fine, I have a question Has anyone hard to wear a brace after having hardware removal surgery? I am scheduled to have my surgery this saturday and have no idea what to expect! I had my first 360 spinal fusion in may of 2007 now doc says hardwear may be the cause of my back and leg pain. I hope someone can share they're experience with me.

No, a brace should not be necessary, because they wouldn't (shouldn't, anyway) remove the hardware unless you're fully fused. Once you're fused, the brace is unnecessary, unless it's occasional for muscle support/relief.

I hope it goes well and that you get some pain relief!

Good luck with your upcoming surgery. :) I'm guessing you're fused? I had the same issue, I was fused, but the hardware was revealed in a CT Scan to be pressing on a nerve and causing the pain I was experiencing. So, my hardware was removed and no a brace wasn't necessary and actually, the recovery time after the surgery was pretty easy and I didn't experience much pain at all.

Thanks guys so much for your support, I don't know why the doctor is requesting it, but I guess thats what they do down here:confused:. as you can see i had to change my username because it was confusing to some people. I really appreciate all the support from these boarRAB and you guys. I have a question did you have a hard time walking around afterwarRAB, like was it as bad as the fusion itself?

Oh my, no, it was nothing like the fusion! You'll have surgical site pain for a week or so. Depending on the hardware (ie, how much there is to remove and how erabedded it is), you may have tissue and/or nerve irritation that can last for several weeks to several months, but nothing like after the fusion.

Doctors tend to offer hardware removal when pain persists for no other apparent reason. There's no guarantee, but for many, removal of the hardware solves the problem.
