Boys from the Blackstuff on Sunday 26th September(BBC 4)

This was the episode that always stuck with me "the shotgun one". Great 50 mins of political (in the best way) television, esp the dynamic in the dole office. Jean Boht terrific as someone who initally appears to be just another cog in the machine but is doing her bit.

Found this episode difficult to watch the first time 28 years ago. Still as difficult to watch tonight. Powerful drama.

I wonder why BBC4 are showing it only at 9:30pm on a Sunday, with no repeat during the week. There are almost always at least two or three programmes worth watching on at that time and even with Sky+ you cannot record three programmes at once.

Probably more to do with rights issues (the idea of a programme being available to view over t'interwebby thing would not have been part of the original rights agreements, and maybe the BBC could not justify any renegotiation (if indeed there was any prospect of any renegotiation).

I bought this series on DVD about a year ago after first seeing it in 1982. I watched it all the way through until I got to this episode. I turned the DVD off half way through and could not put it on again.

Ron Dixon from Brookie too is in it I see, used to love his character Ron and shame we don't see much of him now adays. Or Jimmy Corkhill for that matter, he was awesome.

Loving Boys from the black stuff though as I've never seen it before and always heard it was good.

it was great to see the black stuff the other night after all these years and i'm looking forward to seeing the series again. it's not exactly lighthearted viewing though, especially yosser hughes. fantastic drama and still as relevant today i reckon.

Me too, first time viewer here:) Nearly cried when George died:(But the final scene in the pub was 1 of the funniest I've ever seen on telly:) Shake hanRAB:D
