So I just joined a burlesque troupe at my college and at first my boyfriend was okay with it but after I went to the first rehearsal last night he freaked out. He's upset that people will be able to see the things that only he has gotten to see. He said that when he see's me in lingerie again that it won't be the same because it's also what I perform in. We're in a long distance relationship and have been for over a year and I know that he's not going anywhere. We've never had a problem so strong as this one before.

I really want to do burlesque because I've been a dancer all my life with ballet, tap and jazz but since I'm a college I can't do those things anymore. I also am in love with anything that involves the 1940's and pinup girls so burlesque is right up that ally. Another reason, and a big reason, that I want to do this is so I can have a group of friends that I can identify with because it would be nice to do other things than study on the weekend. And I'm also a photography major and so is the main girl of the burlesque troop and she wants to collaborate on photo shoots with me, which I would love to do.
My boyfriend has NOT and will not tell me that I can't do this, but it really bothers him about the whole performing thing. It hurts me that I feel like I can either be in the troupe and be happy but also make him feel uncomfortable. Or I can not be in it and be alone a lot of the time. He's asked, why I can't just NOT perform, but what's the point of even being in a burlesque troupe if I don't perform? I just don't know the right way to handle this situation. Can someone please talk some sense into me?
