:confused:Well, I got into the van yesterday and drove up the street and back for the first time since I started staying in bed a couple of months ago. It didn't hurt, but I couldn't get myself comfortable. I only drove for less than 5 minutes. I still don't sit, so this was an accomplishment.

Later in the day, while standing on both feet (most of the time I favor my right foot), I felt some jabbing in my right rear. It happened a couple of times and went away. I started feeling a bit sore after that. Then during the night, once I finally went to sleep, (Sammy's sick with a fever) I woke up with back spasms in my lower back and pains running down my right leg. I took Motrin, but it doesn't work. The pain went on all night off and on. I was so upset because I can usually stop the pain by laying on my left side, propped with pillows and heat. It would actually get worse when I would lay that way. So I just movedd around all night. I am now able to lay on my side, but without pillows between my legs or around me. I have to hang my legs over the side of the bed...sheesh! Whatever works, right? I'm still getting pains off and on.

I'm thinking that the heating pad made me worse. I must be inflamed, or something? I tried ice off and on, but the ice made the pains worse today.

So, here I am with the flu or something going around the house (fighting diabetic ketoacidosis on my diabetic kiRAB)..and my back whacks out on me again.

I hope you all are having a better weekend than I am.

Cheryl

Cheryl, I am sorry you are all so sick with the flu and dealing with the old spinal pain on top of it. You poor thing. I have not driven since Septeraber 07 and I doubt that I will be driving anytime soon. I don't think I could handle no pain pills and I refuse to get behind the wheel being on them.

I hope you feel better soon and most importantly that back pain goes away!

Cheryl, I'm so sorry that you are in such bad pain and maybe even getting the flu on top of everything else. You are such an inspiration, as well as other merabers here, in that you take such good care of your family, while battling a devastating condition, yourself. I know that driving always senRAB me into a "fit." I only use myself as a driver only as a "last resort." I pray that your immune system is strong and will ward off the sickness that is going around your house. I also pray that your family will be healed of that horrible sickness. Please keep us all updated about your (and your family's) condition!

Cheryl, I hope you can all just hunker down and rest, and especially that you can find a position that doesn't hurt. I have a diabetic child, too, and I know what a worry that is during sickness (well, and all the rest of the time, too). Hopefully this is just a temporary flare-up from driving and will pass soon.

Take care!
Emily

Hapened me to the first time I drove. The clutch was so heavey to push in but refused to change the car to an automatic. (not very common over here) and I paid for it the next day. So what I started to do was just sit in the driving seat each day for a couple of days and kept adjusting the seat to find a comfortable position. (going no where). At least I knew when I was sore I didnt have far to get home !!!!!!!!! Then after about a week I just went for about 5 min trips and found it much easier. Just my little input, take care hope you are feeling somewhat better today.
